Özellikle okuyun. In the last issue I had started by writing, “this is not a personal development article”, now it is quite the opposite: this may be closely related with personal development! Keyifli okumalar dilerim... 5 editör notu editor’s note I have two examples that I should mention about our current theme of targets. The first one is a striking example from Alice in Wonderland: Alice asked, “Would you tell me please, which way I ought to go from here?” The bunny replied, “It does not matter which way you go if you do not know where you are going.” (from İzgören Academy trainings) In short, knowing what you want is as important as the efforts you make while on the way. If your target is wrong, you will not reach the right place. The other example I will give is from my military training… We were learning how to take aim and shoot the target. However, our rifles were not well adjusted. We were trying to adjust the principle of the iron sights according to our maladjusted rifles. Or rather we were aiming. Our commander was telling us to designate a target in our minds, to adjust the position of the rifle and to focus on the target we chose. He then added that we should not let anything affect us at that moment… Our friends were shooting right next to us and it was too loud to be able to concentrate. We had a limited amount of time to shoot. We were at a shooting range at Mount Ali in Kayseri and the weather conditions were quite severe. (-27 degrees celcius) I almost could not feel my hands. Almost all of us were able to hit the target despite all these difficulties. But the number of successful shooters was quite low. Success meant hitting somewhere around the bull’s eye with three consecutive shots. Three consecutive shots that landed somewhere in the middle of the target meant second degree success. Whereas three consecutive shots right on the target meant a flawless streak. Very few people could do so. We all had the same rifles, we were wearing the same camouflage, the weather conditions were the same and so were the time allocated to us and our distance to the target. Our targets were the same but we got different results. Some had locked eyes on the target focusing on hitting the bull’s eye to be successful. Some were doing so out of obligation. Some had not cleaned their rifles well. Had not exercised enough to get to know their weapons. There were even those who had not worn thermal underwear or put on gloves despite the fact that everyone knew we were to go shooting in cold weather. Our psychologies and physiologies were different. These were what caused the difference. The first requirement to reach the target was to do all that was necessary. Skills and predisposition came last. I should state for those who are curious: I was among those who had secondary success. This was a good score for someone who is against the use of any type of weapon! My “target” was not sharing a memory of mine from the military service, but to put forth our current theme using a striking example. I believe that we can learn from this example to be able to reach anything we want in life. You will first need a sighting device if you have a goal in mind. It is a must to act according to whatever it is that you target. Remove from your life all parasites that mislead you or in other words that make you stray from your target or ignore them until you reach your goal. Always keep this in mind when you are trying to determine what you need: the need you determine and try to reach will show how rich you are in life! Keşişlerin dağı, Yunan tanrılarının yüce Olimpos’u Uludağ, sunduğu eşsiz The desire of mankind to always ask for more and to climb higher and higher has brought with it many different inventions throughout history. The reason for the emergence of nature sports can perhaps be related to this reason and the adventurous spirit of humans. Nothing can stop adventurers with mountains on their minds from climbing up to the summit. They take all precautions against the harsh conditions of the season and set off towards the summit. Of course, it is also possible to spend the weekend holiday at the Hotels Region and sip your hot chocolate by the fireplace. But it is something else to reach the Small Summit after a trip full of surprises, light up your camp fire for a short break in the accompaniment of the souls of monks and then continue all the way up to the “Large Summit”… Even the thought of reaching the summit, writing your name down in the summit log and watch like a Greek god the city that sprawls around under your feet would be enough… Uludağ, the mountain of monks, the Olympus of Greek gods will embrace you four seasons of the year… The foundations of the mountaineering sport carried out today by many adventurers were laid down in the 1800s when mountaineers from abroad came to our country to climb mountains. The first expedition was carried out in 1829 and at 25 bursa dokusu bursa motifs 26 manzaralarla dört mevsim kucak açar size… Türklerde, Birinci Dünya that time the expeditions were mostly for scientific rather than sportive purposes. The German professor of physics, Parrot who reached the summit of Mount Ararat was followed after his death by many professors from different countries such as Herman Abich working in the same region, Karl Koch who climbed the Kaçkar Mountains and W. Rickmer. These expeditions attracted the attention of the German Mountaineering Club thus leading to a group being sent to Turkey in the summer of 1927. Veli Çavuş accompanied and guided the group that set off to climb up to the Demirkacık summit, therefore this climb was accepted as the first Turkish expedition to the summit. Ali Vehbi Üstün, known also as the “First Turkish Mountaineer” reached the highest summits of the Alpine Mountains in 1906 together with his 4 French mountaineer friends. The sport of mountaineering that started in Turkey when an Austrian mountaineer started giving basic mountaineering courses to Turkish soldiers during the First World War which then transformed from a necessity into a hobby and even a passion as time went by. The climb that is accepted as the first mountaineering expedition was the Erciyes summit expedition that took place in 1924 with a group of 6 military officers and a soldier led by Colonel Camil Cahit Toydemir. 1928 yılında “Türk 28 in this sports, wrote the names of the people in the group on a piece of paper and placed it there after putting it in his metal cigarette box. Thus, the first summit log in Turkey was written. It was Osman Şevki Bey, a doctor from Bursa, who named this almighty (meaning “Ulu” in Turkish) mountain known at the time as Keşiş Mountain higher than 2500 meters as Uludağ in 1925 when the first mountain trips were organized. The suggestion of Osman Şevki Bey to rename the mountain after the climb was accepted by Atatürk and Osman Bey was given the surname of Uludağ. Mountaineering organizations that started in 1928 with the “Turkish Mountaineering Society” were followed by military expeditions. Expeditions led by the Federation of Mountaineering and Winter Sports established officially in 1939 followed the military expeditions in the 1940s. Latif Osman Çıkıgil was the founder and the first president of the Mountaineering Federation during 1936 – 1941 for whom climbing activities are organized every year. Sidney Nowill, an English mountaineer originally from Turkey established a route by himself in the 1950s to climb Uludağ which became popular and has been used by mountaineers for many years. Tüm dağcıların gözdesi olan Uludağ’ın heybeti, gizemli geçmişi, mistik havası, Over time it became a passion to be in nature and to continue the expedition towards the summit despite harsh weather conditions. Much more than a field of sports, mountaineering became a hobby that developed people both physically and psychologically and that made them feel “good”. Aficionados of this sport that are increasing in number continued to hit the roads towards the summit in Uludağ be it winter or summer… To reach the Small Summit Keşiştepe where the house of the monk is hidden and to write their names on Karatepe, the “Large Summit” named as “Kulle-i Cihan” by Evliya Çelebi during his Bursa visit... The grandeur of Uludağ, its mystic air and history full of legends is enough to let yourself go… Maybe you hit the roads only in the name of sports or to pull away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and crowded city streets to send your greetings to the monks… It would not be possible to hold yourself against its allure even if you think that you will not be able to gather enough strength to do so. If you have learned the fundamentals of mountaineering, taken the necessary training and perhaps had a few experiences beforehand then you are ready to go. Of course you should also inform the Gendarme Search and Rescue Unit. There is such an obligation because expeditions carried out with no permit might risk your lives. You have your breakfast in the wee hours of the morning in the nature and start walking towards the predetermined destination in the accompaniment of your friends and an experienced guide if this 29 bursa dokusu bursa motifs efsanelere konu olan tarihi bile yeterlidir ona teslim olmak için… İzinsiz tırmanışlar güvenliğinizi de riske atacağı is your first climb… Hours later the starting point is way behind you when you reach the Small Summit where you will give a break to start a camp fire around which you will sing merry songs. If you embark on this adventure during the summer months, you might see the Apollon butterflies in this region. This summit known as “Keşiştepe” where the house of the monk built 50 meters below the summit in 1936 is located will be your first step in reaching the real summit. You will understand why the monk chose this spot for reclusion once you see this spot. Indeed, you might even think that a life spent viewing such a scenery will not end that easily. Its height and the hardships you have to endure to reach it lead you to think that this is the real target. That is why the Small Summit is also known as the “Pseudo Summit” için böyle bir zorunluluk getirilmiş. 1936 yılında inşa edildiği bilinen ve asıl zirveden because it fools adventurous souls on their way to the “Large Summit”. Whereas others leave Keşiştepe and continue on their way with the determination to finish the task they started. You can continue your climb while enjoying the generous sceneries of Uludağ. You greet Marmara on one side and Aegean on the other side to reach the region of lakes. It would be wise to remind you to be cautious here if you are climbing in winter since this spot is very cold even during the summer months. You can experience every season and climate until you reach the summit covered with snow all year around. To sit and rest for a while as well as to make these moments unforgettable… Of course the scenery that you will enjoy depends on whether you are there in the season when all the lakes freeze up or when blooming endemic plants sprawl under your very feet in a myriad of colors… Uludağ shows its gratitude for your visit by presenting all its colors of four seasons. It is up to you to enjoy them. You see your target when you look south from the Lakes Region. The 2543 summit of Uludağ is now right in front of you. Even though the summit seems as if it is kilometers away, you are now eager to continue. The only thing that is left is to reach the summit and sign the summit log hidden underneath a stone while taking pride in yourself. Of course it would be wise not to idle around for a long time with feelings of victory. For you now have to go back. You will maybe leave the summit thinking of coming back in a short time. Another item in your things-to-do-before-I-die list has been crossed off. Maybe Uludağ gave you the inspiration to reach your goals with its warm embrace. But reality was different. The goal of Zaz was to change the world with her music and she was already accustomed to being on stage from a very early age long before she became popular with just one song… Hayattan beklentilerini After listening to her some had believed that they found the new “little sparrow” and placed her on the throne of Edith Piaf; whereas others had wondered who this single song sensation girl was. Zaz had enthralled everyone with this one song thus managing to win the admiration of the world in a very short time. She gave importance only to making music and singing her songs either on the streets or on stage and thus sharing the beauties of life with others. The sly girl of music have divided her private life and musical life in two with the stage name of Zaz that she coined herself and have set the changing of the world as her only goal in life at a very early age. She believed that she could accomplish this only with her music. She looked at life much like the way she described in her songs that were identified with herself… She preferred to seek art, music, compassion and real love instead of expensive jewelry, luxurious cars and wealth. We first got to know her singing on a street in Paris accompanied with only a guitar and a contrabass. We saw in her eyes the look of one who was putting her heart out to freely sing a song that identifies with her expectations from life… This reality of hers combined with her sincere attitude suddenly made this street musician another girl in our houses. Caz türünde şarkılar söyleyerek başlayan sahne hayatını, 2009 yılında Paris’te yapılan bir yarışmada birincilik 42 song she sang. But actually she was not a street performer. She had discovered her love of music at a very early age and had embraced this love dearly. Music had always been in her life until the moment when we met her and heard her voice that pierces our souls deep down. “Zaz” was actually a dream… Zaz was the stage name of Isabelle Geffroy born on the 1st of May, 1980 to a teacher mother and a father working at an electricity company… She had decided to coin herself a stage name so that she could live her private life and stage life separately and thanks to her love of symmetry she picked the first and last letters of the alphabet thus starting and finishing the name with the same letter. She attended the conservatory with her siblings from the age of 5 to 11 and took courses on music theory, violin, piano, guitar, choral singing. For her, music was the beginning of her life. Her musical life that started at an early age continued when she joined a blues band called “Fifty Fingers” in Bordeaux and appeared on stage for the first time. Her stage life started with jazz songs after which she went on to come first in 2009 at a competition in Paris and this was followed with her first album of her own songs bearing her own name. This album was a turning point in her musical life. She had become well known in a very short amount of time thanks to the power of the internet, her songs were in the limelight and now everyone knew of this pretty girl starring in this record breaking online music video. Radio programs, television shows followed by magazine and newspaper interviews led Zaz to become a world famous figure. Then came her world tour. Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, Serbia, Turkey… She was now the new Edith Piaf and the “little sparrow” of France. Even though she always emphasized her pride in this comparison, this was not the real goal of Zaz. She just wanted to sing hers songs and share them with everyone via her voice nurtured by her soul and emotions. Because this was the only way she would be able to change the world and make it a 2013 ZAZ Bursa konserinden... 2013 ZAZ from Bursa concert... kazanması ve bir yıl sonra kendi yazdığı şarkılardan oluşan ve kendi adını taşıyan ilk albümü izledi. She added the influences of her idols Ella Fitzgerald, Enrico Menas, Richard Bona, Bobby McFerrin to her music throughout her career… She was influenced not only by French music but also by jazz, blues, Afro, Latin music that can be considered to be her starting point. The rest comes naturally when she opens her mouth to sing, her naturalness is reflected in her voice thus turning everywhere she sings into a center stage be it a street or a stadium. Zaz was selected as the “Best Musician” of 2010 43 armoni harmony in her own country and she has been helping us all to quench our longing for naturalness. Who knows, maybe she sings to the Isabelle inside of her when singing on stage or in the streets or maybe she gets all her energy from her first years in music. How else can we explain the fact that she does not stand still even for one second during her concerts and live performances and keeps on dancing with an endless energy hypnotizing the viewers? Listening to her albums or watching her perform live is like going on a journey under her guidance… She takes the listeners to a landscape of melodies the moment she starts singing and brings them back to artık dünyaca ünlü bir isimdi. The stories on Robin Hood as a fantasy or reality go long way back before Wiiliam Tell and the written pieces on Robin Hood date back to the 14th century. Legend has it that Robin Hood is a Norman noble who has revolted against King John in the 10th century and established 47 film şeridi storyboard Will Scarlet, Küçük John, Friar Tuck gibi isimlerden oluşan çetenin en enteresan karakterlerinden biri ise çeteye iddialı bir giriş yapan Will Scarlet, nam-ı diğer Genç Will… 30’lu yıllarda henüz 28 yaşındayken onu canlandıran Errol Flynn 48 his own kingdom in the forest… According to his story that has been the subject of many movies and books; he is an outlaw who has become the defender and protector of the people oppressed by John who is the brother of King Richard known also as the Lion Hearted King of England. Robin Hood has been the subject of many books, movies, TV series and even cartoons and his main location is the Sherwood Forest… Each member of the band of outlaws in this forest has a different ability but they all share the same goal; ensuring the prosperity of the people by their own methods and their own sense of justice thus ending the inequality between the rich and the poor. Will Scarlet, known as Young Will is one of the most interesting characters in this gang consisting of people such as Little John or Friar Tuck… And of course Robin Hood was in love as is the case for all fantastic heroes. Maid Marian, the one and only love of Robin Hood was actually a Norman Princess but it was her love that forced her to come to the Sherwood Forest and join the gang of the man she loved. One can find different stories about Robin Hood and his fellow outlaws in every book or movie telling his tale. This may be true for even Robin Hood himself. After all it is certain that he is an imaginary hero which makes him open to interpretations. Everyone accepts Robin Hood as they read, listened to or watched in their childhood. This universal hero has been fighting for justice and freedom for centuries be it in books, movies or on television screens. bu rolüyle özdeşleşerek hafızalara kazındı. Tell’in hikâyesi kraldan esirgediği bir selamla efsaneleşti. Hikâyeye göre iktidarın gücünü reddeden, eşitliğin ve özgürlüğün peşinden giden bu asi ve milli kahraman Habsburg Hanedanı adına ülkesini yöneten Gessler’i selamlamayı reddedince, Robin Hood was first seen on the movie screen in 1922. Errol Flynn starred as Robin Hood during the 30’s when he was only 28 after which he was committed to the memories of all viewers. The Robin Hood legend continued with names such as Sean Connery, Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe thus leaving its mark on a period of 80 years in the history of cinema with important productions and different versions blending the perspectives of various directors and screenwriters. The white screen and television screens swarmed with Robin Hood adventures. Robin Hood was known by everyone but no one knew his real story of whether he was actually real or not… A universal hero who entered the lives of people from all ages… Just like his arrows that strike the bull’s eye every time he is about to take center stage… William Tell or Wilhelm Tell in German who became famous following the 4 act opera of the Italian composer Gioacchino Rossini, Guillaume Tell… The story of Tell became a legend after he refused to greet the King. It is rumored that the rebellious national hero who refused the power of the government thus following the path to equality and freedom was condemned with a punishment that placed the life of his son on the line after he refused to greet Gessler who was ruling the country in the name of the Habsburg Dynasty. The punishment was that he would place an apple on the head of his son and hit it. Even though Tell was an expert archer, his 49 film şeridi storyboard oğlunun hayatını riske atan bir cezaya çarptırıldı. Elbette bu cevap Gessler’i son derece 50 kızdırdı ve Tell’in hapse atılma kararıyla sonuçlandı. Zaten Tell’in usta nişancılığından ve gideceği yeri asla şaşmayan oklarının gazabından korkan Gessler, onu bir yere kapatmak için fırsat kolluyordu. Ancak şansı yaver giden Tell’e gemiyle hapsedileceği yere götürülürken çıkan fırtına yardım etti. Tell, fırtınayla oluşan karmaşadan yararlanarak gemiden atladı ve uzunca bir süre kaçarak dağlara saklandı. Artık savaşı daha da büyümüştü. İsviçre’nin bağımsızlığını tek başına üstlenmiş, Gessler’i öldürmesiyle İsviçrelilere ayaklanmaları için cesaret vermişti. Milliyetçiliğin var olmaya başladığı yıllarda son’s life was on the line. The moment that gave him worldwide recognition took place right at that instant. He had shot the apple on his son’s head expertly, but this was not enough for him to let go of the ideals he defended. He was holding a second arrow in his head before attempting the shot and the king asked him the reason. Tell’s reply was an indication that he would never compensate from his pride: “If the first arrow had hit my son, I would shoot you with the second one.” Of course this reply annoyed Gessler and he ordered Tell to be imprisoned. Gessler was already biding his time to lock Tell up because he feared from his expert marksmanship and the fury of his arrows that never missed. However, Tell was on a lucky streak and a storm came to his rescue just as he was about to embark on the ship that would take him to prison. Tell took advantage from the chaos brought about by the storm, jumped out of the ship and hid in the mountains for a long time. This further developed his war. He had taken the independence of Switzerland upon himself and had given courage to the Swiss to revolt after he killed Gessler. He was known all over the world thanks to the events that took place in the years when nationalism was starting to exist as well as the play written by Friedrich von Schiller in 1804. Maybe this legend that everyone believed wholeheartedly was just a made up story but either way it had worked, it had given courage to the people thus ensuring that their hopes for a better future remained intact. Just like Robin Hood, William Tell became famous with his expert marksmanship as well as courage taking part in many works of art from movies to TV shows. The TV series of William Tell in the 80’s had made a mark on the memories of those that watched it thanks to its musical score. Whereas Brendan Fraser played the role of Tell in the 3D movie listed in the 2012 IMBD list. The scene during which he shot the apple on his son’s head became an immortal one that will be talked about for any centuries to come. Indeed, there were those who tried to do the same thing which ended badly. The best known among these is he American writer William Burroughs who shot his wife while trying. Maybe both Robin Hood and William Tell were two heroes who were not real. Maybe both were imaginary. They may be the heroes of those who dream that one day everyone will be equal and live happily in a just order with no wars or inequalities; or the heroes who live in their own stories… Who knows? gelişen olaylar ve Friedrich von Schiller’in 1804 yılında yazdığı piyes ile adını tüm dünya duymuştu. I do not think that anyone have devoted as much of their time and thought to composing music as I have. There is not even one single composer the works of which I have not worked on many times.” Londra’da Bach, Manzuoli ve Abel ile çalışma fırsatı yakalayan Mozart was a genius who did not give up on music that he started when he was only 3 years old and left significant traces in the history of music with over 600 pieces encompassing a life of 35 years… He was a unique musician who was widely acclaimed and envied who was always the best and thus died a still much-debated death. As his colleague Antonio Salieri who believes that discovering his genius was a damnation states, there was “a piece of God” in every composition he made starting from when he was 5 years old. Each note that Mozart used was a drop of his soul on paper. The notes that he wrote down without any need for revisions and the miraculous harmony that emerged cannot be explained in any other way. It was a great misfortune for a musician to have lived during the life time of Mozart. Mozart had lived during a period when the Turks ruled all of Europe and he had reflected his admiration for the Turks in his compositions. “Neither a superior intelligence nor imagination or both is enough to make one a genius. Love, love, love. That is genius itself.” Mozart was born to a family of musicians on January 27, 1756 in Salzburg, started playing the piano when he was 3 years old and started composing music 61 evrensel sanat universal art Viyana’daki heykeli, mezarı ve evi. Erken yaşta çıktığı bu yolculuklar nedeniyle okul hayatı hiç olmamıştı ama gittiği her ülkede kullanılan dilleri kısa süre içinde öğrenip, from the age of 5. He had seen his violinist and composer father as a school; had found the chance to work with her 5 years elder sister who was a singer. Their father saw the harmony between them thus realizing the talent of his children in music and ensured that they received the best education in this field. Starting from 1762, Mozart took to the roads with his father and sister and continued to impress everyone with a new talent of his that emerged every day. Thanks to his sensitive ears, he was able to realize when the tune of a violin was lowered by one eighth of a note and could sometimes faint as a reaction to bad sounds. He went to Munich, Frankfurt, Cologne, Paris, Brussels, Augsburg and London on his first long tour during 1763 – 1766. He had the chance to work with Bach, Manzuoli and Abel in London and his family returned to Salzburg in 1766. Mozart went to Vienna for a second time in 1767 and 2 years later composed two operas entitled La Finita Semplice and Bastien und Bastienne. Mozart went to Italy during the same year; he had many fans there and gained huge success with his operas in Milan. He was only 14 years old when his first opera piece entitled “Lucia Silla” was put on stage and gained admiration. Starting from 1777, Mozart had to continue on the road without his father due to his health problems and it was one year later when he went to Paris after which he went on to Mannheim to take part in the “Mannheim Orchestra” which was accepted as the best at the time. He met many musicians during his trips. He had kings and queens listen to his compositions. It was accepted by many famous thinkers and writers of the time such as Goethe and Voltaire that he was “the grand master of music”. He was awarded with the “Knight of the Golden Spur” by the Pope which was given to the best artists. However, Mozart had preserved the child in his heart until his death and thus he was not interested in such merits. The reasons for this were his modesty as well as the fact that nothing could get ahead of the happiness and joy he felt while he was working. He never complained once in spite of the financial troubles he experienced and continued to compose all the time and under every circumstance. Mozart married the woman he loved going against his father who did not approve of this marriage and this was the first time that he had upset his father whom he always loved and respected as a source of pride and joy. He had fallen in love with the daughter of Weber who he met when he went to Germany to give piano lessons and rented Weber’s house when he was only 21; he was planning to marry her. However, soon he devoted himself completely to his art and operas thus forgetting her. He met Weber and his family once again a few years later in Vienna and this time fell in love with Constanze, Weber’s other daughter. Mozart married Constanze going against his father who saw her for what she really was as a lavish and selfish person and believed that she would only break his son’s heart. With this marriage, he had entered probably the most productive period in his life thus starting to compose pieces the likes of which had never been heard before. Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, Cosi Fan Tutte and The Magic Flute were the operas he composed during this period. Another opera he composed during his marriage entitled, The Abduction from the Seraglio was about a love story in the Topkapı Palace and was accepted as the fruit of his admiration for the Turks. He started working on the two-act opera entitled “Zaide” in 1780. Some believed that the admiration for this unfinished work was a Turkish girl named “Zaide” who he was in love with. Mozart had also composed a Turkish March during this time when the Turks ruled all of Europe and he had been inspired by the Janissary March that he admired. However, he never even once considered saving the huge amounts of money he earned and thus continued to onu deli gibi kıskanmasına rağmen bu haline üzülüyor, her şeyden önce müziğin bu kutsanmış yeteneği kaybetmemesi gerektiğine inanıyordu. 6 kişilik bir cenaze töreniyle kimsesizler spend recklessly with his wife. In time, he faced a financial crisis that went on getting worse which caused Mozart to work as a palace musician just like his father. This was not an issue for Mozart, but it meant that this genius musician respected worldwide was being “used up”. Antonio Salieri was the Vienna Palace musician working there during the same period with Mozart and he was saddened by this despite the fact that he was immensely jealous of Mozart and believed that music should not lose this blessed talent. Salieri was one who had set his heart on music when he was only a small child, believed that living in the same time frame with Mozart was a curse and prayed that he could go on to compose enthralling pieces. However, there was one person who composed music that he could not even describe: Mozart. The admiration and hate that Salieri felt for Mozart started at the same time when he discovered this superior talent. Seeing this genius had to be a curse and being a musician who shared the same time frame with him the worst disaster that could befall on one’s self… Mozart had started to feel the weight of death towering over him and continuously expressed this thought and he started composing the Requiem upon the request of a mysterious stranger who showed up at his door. He died in Vieanna in December 5, 1791 leaving behind the unfinished composition entitled Requiem which was to be completed by one of his students delegated by his wife. This death remained a mystery because no one knew who the mysterious stranger was and the sinister rage of Salieri for the physical existence of Mozart despite his admiration for Mozart’s artistic being kept on attracting suspicions. Salieri lost his mind following the death of Mozart who believed that the mysterious stranger was in fact the Grim Reaper and kept on accusing himself until his death. Mozart died in poverty contradicting his immense talent and success. He 65 evrensel sanat universal art mezarlığına gömüldü. Antonio Salieri 66 was buried in the potter’s field following a funeral attended by 6 people. The real location of his grave is not known even today. A monument was erected in his name in Vienna on an empty grave which was accepted as his real grave. Mozart blended the Baroque period with his own style thus composing the first examples of classical music with many symphonies, solo concertos, operas as well as sonatas for stringed instruments and piano. He succeeded in reflecting his pain, sickness, and the distress he experienced during his travels as an immense joy and bliss in his music. The movie entitled “Amadeus” which was shot centuries after his death from the perspective of Antonio Salieri became one of the most popular movies of the 80s. The movie reflecting the real life conflicts between Salieri and Mozart onto the white screen with Tom Hulce and F. Murray Abraham as actors won 8 Oscars. Mozart became the inspiration, guide and idol for all composers and music lovers who came after him… He shared the naivety of a child’s soul with notes and shared his hope and joy of life with the world through his melodies. Each piece he left behind was another discovery and a unique jewel for musicians from every generation. Mozart was the never growing kid of music blessed with superior talents who was believed to carry a piece of god in his music. 67 geçmiş zaman kipinde the past tense Reklam kokan anılar bunlar Memories reminiscent of ads Oralet Osman’ı bilir misiniz? However, it is not possible to forget the nostalgic naivety or the colorful memories of those black and white days or to stop ourselves from smiling a rueful smile when we are talking about them… It was something else to witness at the time of their popularity the dominance of different brands and products most of which do not exist anymore; or the gentle competition between different brands that produced the same product. But it is something else altogether to watch the ads that have been shot by pushing the limits of the technical resources at the time and to read the inserts that have been written in the Turkish of that time period… Those were the years when we first started to purchase brands the jingles of which were engraved in our minds without us being aware… Or the years when we started developing habits of using only the brands of a famous person we liked… Today, advertising is a profession that is very much in demand and since the old times it has been supported by ads that are shot to introduce a new product 69 geçmiş zaman kipinde the past tense önerdiğinden başka marka kullanmama alışkanlığınızın oluşmaya başladığı zamanlar… Matbaanın icadıyla bugünkü 70 to a certain target group or to increase the sales of an already existing product, mottos as well as songs that are either composed from scratch or by changing the lyrics of a well known one. The advertisements of today which are shot using state of the art technology aiming to increase the sales of the products they introduce via riveting and captivating mottos date back to the times before Christ. Advertising probably first came into being at about 3000 B.C. in Egypt when town criers started shouting the notices written by authors on papyrus. Of course these notices did not have any commercial concerns but are still accepted as advertisements because they were some sort of announcement. The first announcement that is accepted as a printed ad was the wall poster of the book entitled “The Eyes of Slisbury Use” written for priests in 1480 and printed in London. The commercial development of advertisement, the foundations of which were laid with the invention of the printing press, started when the first newspaper insert was printed for a new book. Benjamin Franklin enabled the development of the sector as the owner of his own newspaper in the 1730s who is accepted as the pioneering figure for American advertisement and the newspaper advertisement sector that we know today. Many creative ideas were being suggested all over the world as the first steps of advertisement which developed into a completely new sector son halinin temelleri atılan reklâmcılığın ticari gelişimi 17. yüzyılda, yeni çıkan bir kitap için hazırlanan ilk gazete ilânının yayınlanmasıyla başladı. Bu ihtiyacın varlığı 16. yüzyılda Fransız düşünür Montaigne’nin öngörüsüyle ortaya atıldı. thereby creating many new lines of businesses. Copywriters competed to write the most easy to remember mottos for new products. The importance of the advertisement sector was going to be understood much better over time as it continued to gain value and efforts started to be crowned in prize competitions. It was proposed to manage the increasing number of newspaper ads by an agency. The existence of such a need was brought forwards in the 16th century following the foresight of Montaigne, a 16th century French thinker. This new sector that became a giant over time continued to develop with new inventions and products. This period was followed by the use of radio ads starting in the 1920s. The depression of the 30s due to the war had a negative impact on the advertising sector as well and this fast growing sector started losing its glamour. The economic crisis of clients and consumers affected advertisement professionals as well thus starting a period of crisis that was to last until the Second World War. The invention and spreading of television enabled advertisement to win back its charm in a glorious fashion. Now every product that was advertised could reach our houses with its motto, its representative face and even 71 geçmiş zaman kipinde the past tense Zaman içinde devleşen bu sektör yeni icatların, ürünlerin ortaya çıkmasıyla beslenerek gelişti. Our country fell under the spell of this phenomenon before the Balkan War thanks to the pioneering efforts of David Samanon already in Istanbul. Agency manager Emest Hoffer who came back from Egypt after the war also joined him and they cooperated. The motto of their agency was simple and clear: “Call 94 and 95 to have your ads printed in any newspaper you want.” These two partners were adding new concepts to the sector while contributing to the existence and development of advertisement in Turkey. Ads that were charged according to columns and centimeters were not only published in newspapers; they were also moved around the streets with “Sandwich Men” who were later banned by the municipality. The first “picture” ad was printed in 1842. The first commercial ads started to be printed in this new era started by Tercüman-ı Ahval newspaper. Many newspapers were established thanks to these advertisements thought of as a new means of income, but most closed up one after the other because of the competition that they failed to take part in. Advertisement had become a new career during the reign of Abdülhamit which was important because it was the time when the difference between inserts and ads first came up. The texts on leaflets and posters started to diminish giving way to visuals. Mottos written by using various plays of words were made more striking by using different fonts. gazetede neşredilsin.” Reklâmcılığın ülkemizde yaygınlaşmasında 1909 yılında “İlâncılık” adıyla The first advertisement company entitled “İlâncılık” which was founded in 1909 played an important role in popularizing advertisement in our country. The revival that took place in 1919 following the depression and crises of the war years was also reflected in the advertisement sector. It was during this time that Sedat Simavi who was known as a cartoonist and humorist led the way as a graphic designer thus improving the designs of ads. Advertisement became one of the most important sectors thanks to the slowly recovering economy of the country following the War of Independence and the proclamation of the Republic. The newspaper sales that started to increase in 1938 also enabled the reviving of advertisement. Ads started to play a more important role in shaping consumption as they were used in more and more different fields. The first radio ads were broadcast during the 1950s. An enactment issued one decade later enabled the establishment of special timeframes for such ads. Specialists and innovators of this field started to emerge as advertisement transformed into a very serious field of expertise taught at schools. Important steps were taken in radio advertisement until 1959. The sector experienced difficulties during 1957-1961 because of a Decree of the Council of Ministers designating the Official Announcement Company as the only eligible one to give ads to 73 geçmiş zaman kipinde the past tense 74 kurulan ilk reklâm şirketinin de rolü büyüktü. However, another decree that was put into effect a short time later set free the issuing of all ads and inserts. Suddenly, the 60s became the most active years for advertisement. Other agencies followed the first one founded in Turkey in 1944 thus establishing a competitive field. Agencies decided to join forces in 1971 and established the “Union of Advertisement Agencies”. 1972 was the year when Turkey was first introduced to the colorful world of television ads. Well thought out advertisements were shot by people who were educated abroad in this field using all the technical resources available at the time. Television became the favorite medium of all advertisers and clients since it had taken the world by storm and was entering each and every household. Indeed, political advertisements were also circulated at the time. Television had started to become the focus of people as it slowly transformed into something indispensable. Even though broadcasts were made under strict time limitations during the first years, people of all ages from 7 to 70 were intently watching whatever was on. This made television all the more important for the advertising sector. Ads that were shot one after the other included new mottos, songs composed solely for the advertised products and were mostly backed up by famous names. It was during this period that people well known and trusted by the public were started to be identified with famous brands. New faces emerged while Zeki Müren said “hello” to us, Mazhar Alanson could not do without his hat and Kaan Girgin kept on saying 75 geçmiş zaman kipinde the past tense Şirketi’ne tanıyan Bakanlar Kurulu Kararnamesi nedeniyle sıkıntı yaşandı. 76 “pardon me”. Famous names that we have known for years today were actors and actresses carefully selected during that period. Many names grew up in front of our very own eyes like the little girl drinking “ten hundred thousand bubbles” at the beach with her teddy bear or another little girl who was asking us a riddle in a melodic tone. Characters were created to represent the same product or brand which went on to become legendary with a series of ads. Ali Desidero, Oralet Osman, Ayşe Teyze were only a few of these. The famous artists and soccer players at the time had been identified with various brands and had started to direct the purchasing behavior of the public. Now advertisements were seriously affecting the purchasing behavior and new names that emerged with new ads were accepted as a new member of the family. Advertisements with assertive mottos made a deep impact on the consumer when presented by sympathetic and joyful characters. Today, this is still ongoing and thus famous people are creating memories that will leave their marks on the history of advertising by cooperating with popular brands. This occupation that is nourished by the need and desire for shopping dates back almost to the emergence of mankind and will continue to exist as long as people live. We’ll be back right after these messages… 77 geçmiş zaman kipinde the past tense Bu da televizyonu, reklâmcılık sektörü için en önemli alan haline getirdi. Zeki Müren’in bize “alo” demesi, Mazhar Alanson’un şapkasız çıkmaması, Kaan Girgin’in “pardon”u gibi bugün hala 78 unutulmayan detayların yanı sıra reklâmlar sayesinde tanıdığımız yeni yüzler de keşfedildi. Centuries have passed since its discovery and the plea made to ensure its survival. Dart, or “oklama” according to TDK, is a game played with an aiming board consisting of circular targets, colorful arrows and a few friends that puts entertainment before victory. Ta ki, mekânında bu oyunu oynatan Anakin’in The fact that we are always striving to reach a “target” is reflected even in the games that we play to spend some time with our friends when we find the opportunity to pull ourselves away from the daily hustle and bustle. “Dart” – or “oklama” in Turkish – is proof of this. It dates back to the 1500s and has become a sensation all over the world towards the end of the 19th century. We would probably never even have heard its name if not for Anakin who proved that dart is not an ordinary game of chance but actually is a kind of sport during the time when gambling and games of chance were banned in England. “A game played by throwing small arrows to a fixed board with circular targets.” This is a game that can be defined in one sentence and that dates back centuries. It is not known who invented it but rumor has it that it was played by the English during Medieval times. However, the game fell a victim to the period when games of chance were banned in England. Until Anakin was brought into court for allowing this game to be played at his venue. In 1908, Anakin set up a dartboard in the courthouse and proved the close relations of this game not with chance but with ability and exercise with the shots he made as witnessed by everyone present. During the many years after this incident, dart was not only accepted as a sport but it also went onto become a passion for millions of people supported by the “World Darts Federation” as well as 81 bilgi hapı information pill mahkemeye verilmesine kadar. It was even included in the 2012 Olympic Games hosted by England which is considered to be the homeland of darts. The reason why darts became so popular all over the world in such a short amount of time is related with the fact that it does not require expensive equipment and so is rather less costly in comparison with many other sports, that it does not require a large space to be played and that it is not related with factors such as age, gender, height or weight. Darts started to attract attention as late as the 2000s in Turkey and was accepted as an official sport after it became a part of the Turkish Shooting and Hunting Federation. Afterwards Turkey participated in many global organizations, received many successes and became a member of the World Darts Federation within 6 years. Darts, also defined as “chess played standing up”, works the body as well as the mind. It exercises your mind while taking you away from stress and ensuring that you socialize with others. The numbers on a dartboard made of plant roots or those on an electronic dartboard seem attractive even to those who are not on good terms with numbers. Shots made by targeting the center of a board on which 20 numbered slices have been randomly placed along with the patterned and even inlaid arrows attract everyone who is involved. Players forget their exhaustion to reach real goals in life and have fun while trying to focus on only one target even if for a few hours. Some place the photo of those he/ she hates at the center “12” and some analyze this sport with all its details by establishing wellthought strategies. 83 estetik estetic “Sen başarırsın oğul” “You will succeed my son” Sene 1982, Kars’tayım, ortaokul birinci sınıf öğrencisiyim… We will learn a foreign language for the first time but it is either our math or physical education teacher who will teach us. After school I saw a tourist while walking home through the market and I said “hello”. I don’t know how it happened and how 84 dersinden hallice, matematik dersinden öte İngilizcemle turisti gezdirdim ve bana 5 dolar verdi. “Bir gün yabancı bir topluluğa İngilizce konuşma yapacağım ve herkes beni dinleyecek” we understood each other. I took the tourist to a museum. I took him around with my broken English no better than that of my math or PE teacher and he gave me 5 dollars. I remember going home filled with joy to tell my mother and sisters the story of how I guided a tourist. Now when I look back, I realize that the 5 dollars I got was actually the start of something new. That five dollar bill taught me that life is not limited to only this perfect city. Life for me started here, but the future had to bring forth new opportunities. Yes, I had promised myself; all doors opened up with education, by learning a new language, always dreaming of one step ahead and working very hard. I was a small boy, but my dreams were always very big. “One day I will talk in English to a huge crowd of people and everyone will listen to me,” I diye düşünürdüm. Now that five dollar bill reminds me of the indescribable sourness that my lonely and beautiful country at the time made me feel; how I promised myself, how my mother said warmly, “You will succeed my son!”. Now, I call out to my five year old self: “You succeeded! Your mother was right! You presented the ‘Genital Beautification’ technique that you developed at the ‘3rd World Plastic Surgery Congress’ in Monaco and won the ‘Golden Bistoury Award’! You represented your country, you made a presentation and the ‘Golden Bistoury’ was awarded to you for the quality of your presentation and for bringing a new perspective to plastic surgery.” As time goes by, one starts understanding that nothing is a coincidence. “..... ‘Amirim her gün bir yerini kesiyorlar çocuğun. Serpil understood her mistake when the white shadows were erased and all went back to their real colors. She should not have gotten on that taxi. She was in a windowless white room. Too white! The walls and floor were covered in white, square tiles. The ceiling was low. There was a long table in the middle of the room with metal legs.” How much more violent and fearsome pain can we stand. How can we bear to live in a world where people cut one another, men hack women into pieces on the streets and where bloodthirsty villains roam the streets which we avoided back in the past to avoid running into the neighborhood freak? How much more will we be able to stomach to live in a world that is transforming into a universe of soulless murderers who chop up their lovers with axes and where we watch advertisements among after each and every murder? How can we continue ignoring what we are turning into as all these are becoming normalized? These are not questions. These are actually horrific answers. Cenk Çalışır is a new voice in detective literature genre and do not think that he is actually telling a story in the Rain of Blood. This book actually tells about the truth that draws the reader into it, makes them be witnesses and corners them on a dark street drenched in blood. One morning you may wake up as a stranger to yourself, not remembering anything you lived the night before, with your legs cut off despairing at not knowing who did this to you and why. This can happen. What is even more maddening is that everyone excluding you can watch this on daily news, view it as a normal incident or a TV series and you might feel so weak and alone that you cannot even break free of the nightmare encompassing you. “..... ‘Officer, they are cutting a new part of the kid every day. How long will this go on? Please do something!’ Emrah Polat had not felt so powerless during his long career. He felt as if he had stumbled into a deep, dark well since the beginning of this case. –To the darker, colder and more despairing depths…- He had no traces of an idea that he could cling to and run after. Two men had alerted the whole of Istanbul Law Enforcement. All eyes were on himself and Aykut, but they had not even taken one step further in the case.” Rain of Blood is a terrifying novel. A book that has succeeded in being terrifying with bloodcurdling mastery. One that instills fear in the reader from the first page drawing them deeper into a greater fear. This book that slowly transforms into a revolting scent of blood drenched in fear that takes over the city tells us to, ‘watch television Emine Civanoğlu karanlık bir kuyuda düştüğünü hissediyordu. CENK ÇALIŞIR / KAN YAĞMURU CENK ÇALIŞIR / RAIN OF BLOOD less’, ‘realize what the things you watch on TV transform you into’, ‘realize the bloodshed to break viewer records’. Karga TV that broadcasts short horror movies is actually a representation of a world where one goes out to kill people after sitting in the same café with us. This book wants us to know how far people like Ilker can go who enjoy bloody events, who think of blood even in all his sexual fantasies and dreams and that people like Chief Inspector Emrah Polat and Inspector Aykut Tekcan will not be enough to cleanse this world. It wants us to shudder while watching a bloody movie at home and come to our senses to realize that what we are watching might have taken place somewhere right at that moment. The most terrifying part of the Rain of Blood is that the blood that is shed throughout the book splatters on the reader as well. Even though you will sometimes get frustrated with Cenk Çalışır for being so believable, this is actually his success as a writer. 87 detaylı bakış in detail Kilitli aşkların öyküsü The story of locked loves Kilit, aşk ve köprü simgelerinin ortak noktası, iki nesneyi bağlamak ve onların ayrılmadan birlikte kalmasını sağlamak. Otele dönünce kilitlerin derin anlamını internetten öğreniyorum. 1992 yılında İtalyan yazar Frederico I am in Venice. It has been raining cats and dogs since last night. San Marco Square is flooded because of the waters that spread out towards the alleys from the main street. I can only walk over wooden boards placed on top of crates. I will try to walk around Venice for three days under the protection of my umbrella that I purchased from a street vendor that sprang out from nowhere as soon as it started raining. I stop at one of the alleys (gulley) connecting to the main street to take a photo on a small arched bridge that has not yet been flooded. The colorful locks at the bridge railing with names or hearts drawn on them catch my eye. I don’t know what to make of them but I also take a picture of these locks thinking, “I’ll look into this later”. Thus, I document the moment when I first came across love locks. I learn about the deep meaning of these locks online when I get back to the hotel. In 1992, the Italian author Frederico Moccia has written a novel entitled, “Tre Metri Sopra Il Cielo” (3 Meters Above Heaven). The main characters of the novel, two 89 detaylı bakış in detail Moccia “Tre Metri Sopra Il Cielo” (Gökyüzünün 3 Metre Üstünde) isimli romanını yazmış. Son yıllarda gittiğim pek çok ülkede, bu kilitleri görmeye ve kilitlere daha 90 lovers, have written their names on a padlock over the Ponto Milvio (The Milvian Bridge) at Rome after confessing their loves for one another. They have then hung it on a street lamp near the bridge and locked it so that their love remains illuminated throughout their lives. They have thrown away the key of the lock to the Tiber River wishing that their love lasts forever. Within the first few years that the novel was well read, the habit of writing names on padlocks and locking them onto bridges spread all over Rome. This habit was forgotten in time. Four or five years later the novel was made into a movie. The same habit then started to spread after the movie until today. I started to see these padlocks much more often in every country I visited in recent years and now I understand the meaning behind them. This habit was first interpreted as a naïve and pretty game but soon it started making officials more and more anxious. In time, the officials started reacting against this habit of locking padlocks on bridges because of the extra weight involved, the fact that they hinder the maintenance anlamlı bakmaya başladım. Kilitlerin asılabileceği, köprüye yakın yerlere yapay metal ağaçlar veya demir bloklar yerleştirme, köprünün iki başına sanal e-kilit veya web sitesi (www. lovemasterlock.eu) içeren bilgisayarlar koymak, plastik of bridges and that they cause an ugly appearance (due to rust, metal-water combination). Various complaints were issued to municipalities. Hence, officials started proposing new alternatives to protect the bridges while also ensuring that the sum of all emotions, races, ages, languages and cultures from many different countries continued to be reflected. They made suggestions such as placing artificial metal trees or iron blocks near the bridges to which padlocks could be locked or placing computers to the two ends of the bridges with virtual e-locks or websites (www.lovemasterlock.eu) or using plastic padlocks. However, these suggestions were not adopted by lovers who wished to immortalize their feelings. Thus, the “Resist Bridges, Resist Padlocks” reaction started in countries where “Say No To Love Locks” campaigns had started. The answer to the question “Why bridges”: it is the common 91 detaylı bakış in detail kilitler asma gibi öneriler ileri sürdüler. Gerçekten bir yaşam öyküsünü, aşk duygusunu ve sonsuza değin hiç ayrılmama dileklerini içeren kilitler topluluğu, müze içeriği için iyi bir öneri olabilir kanısını taşıyorum içimde. point of the symbols of lock, love and bridge and it binds and keeps two objects together. In addition, the fact that the key to the padlock can be thrown into the river makes the bridges even more superior. That is why reactions continued to increase against suggestions that did not have the same meaning. Meanwhile, the precautions taken by the officials started to increase. While all these debates were ongoing, a 2,4 meter section of the Pont des Arts Bridge, which is one of the most beautiful bridges of Paris, collapsed on June 10, 2014 because of the weight of the padlocks it carried. This incident strengthened the arguments of the officials. Laws started to be issued in countries where padlocks were common banning their use with less and less tolerance. I saw this padlock culture at Rome, Florance, Davis (California), San Francisco, Brooklyn Bridge (New York) and Botany Park (Bursa) after Venice and I took pictures of them. One year ago, I saw that the padlocks on the Brooklyn Bridge with many different life stories and cultures behind them were removed. I felt resentment inside. I witnessed the replacement of padlocks with graffiti, bits of cloth or various other similar things symbolizing the different wishes. Now there was a padlock free bridge in New York for all those people who come from all over the world to walk on and take pictures of. It was then that I read a suggestion proposed by those who support padlocks in a magazine. The suggestion to build a a museum to display the removed padlocks seemed like a very cute idea to me. I still believe that the collection of padlocks carrying with them the wishes of different lives and loves to live together forever is a wonderful idea for a museum. 93 gezi - yorum travel - ing 94 Yazı ve fotoğraflar / Text and photos: Engin Çakır Güney Doğu’nun melankolik masalı Melancholic fairy tale of the South East Şanlıurfa’nın Gaziantep’i selamladığı büyülü bir vadide Halfeti. It carries with it the sorrow as well as the nobility of black. Legend has it that its roses do not bloom anywhere other than Halfeti. Because it is believed that they cannot look that proud and black anywhere else. Halfeti is a glorious location where one is calmed down while also feeling quite restless about one’s future amidst its tranquility. Few people live here and their main source of income is cultivating pistachio and boating over the dam river. The locals of Gaziantep come here especially during the weekends for picnics. Some families from Gaziantep that were scattered around during the French invasion in 1920 have settled in Halfeti in the Southeastern Anatolia region known also as “Hidden Paradise”. It is ranked first in the Southeastern Anatolia region with a literacy rate of 99 %. They feel more like locals of Gaziantep even though they are officially affiliated with Şanlıurfa. There are some exemplary estates which have been moved due to their historical and mystical values: Bey Estate, Kanneci Estate and Feyzullah Efendi Estate are among the best examples. There are also various buildings and churches with touristic value: Barşavma Monastery, Saint Nerses Church, Norhut Church and Kantarma Hamlet Inn are other locations that are worth seeing… Çekem Neighborhood is one of the most interesting spots in Halfeti. The neighborhood is named after the rebellious commander of the Memluks, Çekem and the traces of the Memluk period can still be seen. A significant portion of the neighborhood is now submerged under water and poses a striking atmosphere with its cut stone houses which are half submerged. Just like Çekem, the village of Savaşan (Belesör) is also mostly under water. This village is famous for its reflection images as well as its caves, stone houses, church, historical streets and the mosque with its minaret over the water. You can also do water sports on the dam lake. In addition, you can participate in boat tours and swim in the cool waters of Euphrates. All kinds of water sports are performed here from water skiing to scuba diving. Yerel lezzetleri arasında; erik tavası, lövlez dürümü, dolma eziği ve mumbar var. Tatlı Halfeti is also known as the daughter of Euphrates and one should taste Şabut fish or kebap. You should also try out the side dishes one by one. You should have a coffee after the apple that is served at the end of the meal. Panned plum, lövlez roll, stuffing paste and mumbar are among the local dishes. Cheese halva is served as dessert. Of course one should not forget çiğköfte and poppy seed kebab. There are some nice restaurants in Halfeti some of which are established on floating barges. There are also cozy guest houses and pensions where you can stay amidst local motifs. You can reach Birecik famous for its eggplant kebab by following the 35 km coastal road. The district is officially affiliated with Şanlıurfa, however it is 120 km. away from Şanlıurfa and 105 km away from Gaziantep. That is why it is more related with Gaziantep in terms of sociocultural relations. There are many means of transportation to the district during the day. There is also a suspended bridge that shakes with every step you take. Eski Mardin’in siluetini izlemeye benzer bir his. Türkiye’nin İzmir’in Seferihisar ilçesinin kabulüyle tanıştığı Cittaslow ağına Seferihisar’ın ardından Çanakkale-Gökçeada, Sakarya-Taraklı, MuğlaAkyaka, Aydın-Yenipazar, Isparta-Yalvaç ve Ordu- watching the stone houses while on the bridge. It is similar to watching the skyline of Old Mardin. And if you see a pigeon rolling around in the air… Halfeti is almost like an open air museum and it joined the rapidly wide-spreading Cittaslow (slow city) network. Cittaslow is an “international network of 154 cities from 25 countries with headquarters in Italy” which is a network of “cities where life is easy” and interest to it keeps on increasing in Turkey as well. Turkey met the Cittaslow network when the Seferihisar district of Izmir was accepted after which Çanakkale-Gökçeada, SakaryaTaraklı, Muğla-Akyaka, AydınYenipazar, Isparta-Yalvaç and Ordu-Perşembe and ŞanlıurfaHalfeti districts were also included. The region where Halfeti is located has been invaded by the Assyrians in 855 B.C. and has been known for a long time by the name of “Şitamrat”. However, the Greeks have changed this name to “Urima”. After that the Assyrians have renamed the region as “Kal’aRhomeyta” and “Hesnad’Romaye”. The region was renamed again as “Kal’at-ül Rum” when seized by the Arabs. In the 11th century this time the Byzantine Empire has captured the region thus renaming it as “Romaion Koyla”. In 1280 the Memluks have laid siege to and plundered the region. The name of the city was changed to “Kal’at-Müslimin” during the Memluk reign. Halfeti was ruled by the Ottoman Empire during the reign of Yavuz Sultan Selim when it was renamed as “Urumgale” and “Rumkale”... 99 gezi - yorum travel - ing Perşembe ve Şanlıurfa-Halfeti ilçeleri de katıldı. The 4 storied 3 star hotel that is under construction draws the reaction of the locals. It resembles a black spot on the magic of Halfeti with its giant silhouette. Some even call it the monstrosity of Halfeti. This hotel is being built about 300 meters from a protected area and damages the skyline of this city which attracts everyone with its epic historical texture. Halfeti has become a district in 1954 where you can go on a magical boat tour from the pier at the Çekem Neighborhood. You will feel sad when you see the Rumkale and the deserted Savaşan Village. Even though there is not much historical information about Rumkale which is one of the most glorious structures of the region, it is known that it was called Hromgla in the past. It is estimated that it was built in 840 B.C. during the Hittite period. Christians have made this place their headquarters during the Roman period and have tried to spread Christianity around Rumkale. Some even believe that the rock one can see during boat tours is the silhouette of Virgin Mary carrying Jesus Christ. It is rumored that the Bible has been written here… St. Johannes, one of the apostles of Jesus, has carved a rock at Rumkale during the Roman period and has started to live here after which the Bible drafts have been written here. Rumkale has been built on hard calcareous rocks on the western slopes of Euphrates; it is surrounded by high walls to the east, north and west. It has been built using large cut stones. Rumkale has only one door opening to the Southeast. The zarar veriyor. Hz. İsa’nın havarilerinden St. Johannes, Roma döneminde Rumkale’ye kayadan oyma bir bölüm yaptırarak burada yaşamaya başlamış ve İncil’in müsveddelerini burada yazmış. Fırat’ın batı yamaçlarında, sert kalkerli kayalar üzerine inşa edilen Rumkale; doğu, kuzey ve batısındaki yüksek duvarlarla çevrili. Büyük ve kesme taşlardan inşa edilmiş. Rumkale’nin Güneydoğu’ya açılan tek kapısı bulunuyor. Sur bedeninin inşasında bazı rocky topography of the region with its sheer cliffs has been used during the construction of the Sur body… It is also rumored that castle which has been captured by the Assyrians in history was the city of Şitamrah which was captured by the Assyrian King in 855 B.C. The castle was known in medieval times as Urima, as Hromklay by the Armenians and as Kala Rhomata by the Assyrians. It was captured by the Ottomans after the Mercidabık War of Egyptians in the 13th century. Even though it is not a region where Armenians live, it is known as Rumkale since the local people call every Christian, “Rum”… Another interesting legend about the castle is as such: the ruler of Rumkale Aziz Nerses had a son to whom he could pass down the rule. Nergis, the son, used to watch his reflection on the waters of the well below the castle when he went down to meet the water demand of the castle. Nergis has continued to like himself more and more as days passed by. One day he has bent down to see his reflection on the surface of the well and has stumbled first to the well and then to the waters of Euphrates and drowned. Legend has it that a very beautiful flower has bloomed where the young man has died. The flower has thus been named “Nergis” (Narcissus/Daffodil). You may pile up many good memories at Halfeti the scorching heat of which is cooled down by the waters of Euphrates. You can go to this place, this “slow city” which will revitalize you with its legends, history, black roses and people… 101 gezi - yorum travel - ing kesimlerde kayalık yapının, dik uçurumlar gösteren topografyasından azami ölçüde yararlanılmış...
