Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Art and Vocational
Training Courses (ISMEK), provides art and vocational
education to Istanbullians free of charge since 1996. It
is an “adult education organization” with the
common public education principals.
ISMEK started its activities in 1996, as a commonpublic education in the scope of social municipal work
project, during the period of İstanbul Metropolitan
Municipality Mayor Mr. Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN.
All the training
programmes,
within the scope of
ISMEK are free for
all the trainees.
Expenditures are met by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

The syllabuses are determined by
Turkish Republic Ministry of National
Education, Lifelong Learning General
Management.
The trainees that fulfill the credit of each
branch and be successful, are given
Course Completion Certificate,
approved by Turkish Republic Ministry of

ISMEK tries to increase its trainees employment rate by the given
trainings, gives guidance service for the trainees’ employment
after their education.
In the 2006 – 2007 Education period Employment Department
started its activities. 1.457 trainees get into a job and earn wages
up to now, by the help/guidance of the employment department.
The number of companies that apply to our department for labor
demand is 2211.
EMPLOYMENT GUIDANCE
Apart from our department, the number of trainees that find a
job theirselves and give information are 870, the number of
trainees that are put in a job by our technical expertise centers
since 2009 is 476.
Total employment number has reached to 2803.

Topbaş, signed cooperation protocol on vocational education.
INDONESIA GOODWILL AGREEMENT FOR COOPERATION
Between ISMEK, SESRIC and Indonesia Vocational Education
Management, a goodwill agreement for cooperation on the
subject of vocational education was signed with Abdullah Gül’s,
president of Republic of Turkey, participation in Indonesia’s
capital Jakarta.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Directorate General
of Education and Karaçi Municipality from Pakistan signed
Cooperation Protocol on 18.06.2012.
OIC PROGRAMI
The Third Meeting of the Monitoring and Advisory
Committee (MAC) of the Vocational Education and Training
Programme for OIC Member Countries was held on 16-20
July 2012 in Tehran and the fourth was held on 26-28
November 2012 in Cameroon.

İSMEK attended to 2012 International Meeting in Mallorca upon European
Forum of Technical and Vocational Education and Training-EfVET’s invitation.
İSMEK has become a member of European Association for the Education of
Adults(EAEA).

EDUCATION OF EDUCATORS FROM JORDAN
ISMEK’s master educators gave education on the branches of
Jewelry, Marbling, Fabric Painting, Wood Painting, Ornamentation
to approximately 100 participants in Palestinian refugee camps in
2007.
On 1st March 2008, 7 Palestinian young people, who were brought
from Nazif Refugee Camp to Turkey for vocational education,
completed their education in ISMEK successfully.
EDUCATION OF EDUCATORS FROM PAKISTAN
A group of 10 educators from Pakistan(6 of pediatric development, 1 of wood
carving, 1 of sewing woman clothes, 1 of embroidery with sewing machine, 1 of
point lace) deserved the right to get a certificate after their completion of
education under the educational cooperation program between ISMEK and
SESRIC in İstanbul.
ISMEK’s master educators give education to their Pakistani collegues who work
in State of Punjab under the program of “Training of Trainers.” This education for
45 educators of TEVTA- the most developed and known education institution of
Pakistan- continued for 15 days by our 4 master educators.
