Honourable Brothers! We have approached the end of the second
Peygamberimiz (s.a.s.)’in, asırlar öncesinden ilkelerini belirlediği kardeşliği yine O’ndan öğrenelim. Allah’a karşı gelmekten sakının ki size rahmet edilsin.” 5 Hazırlayan: Halit YENEN/Wollongong Camii İmam Hatibi Tirmizî, Sıfatü’l-kıyâme, 59. We have approached the end of the second week of these blessed and merciful days of Ramadan. For the believers, Ramadan is a month of mercy, forgiveness, competing in good deeds, and particularly to strengthen brotherhood ties. Within this religious brotherhood, no matter which part of the world we are in, there is an awareness to lend a helping hand, to share the blessings we have, and to not sleep in a full stomach when our neighbours are in hunger. The good month of Ramadan, is a month where we look after those who are in need such as our relatives, the poor, the homeless, the refugees, and the orphans. Dear Brothers! In a hadith our beloved Prophet (saw) states: “None of you has faith until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.”This statement truly describes true and complete brotherhood. Alongside the concept of brotherhood, the devotion to parents is also equally as important and comprehensive. Especially in this blessed month of Ramadan, we should consider those less fortunate and be able to call them our “brothers”, and look to offer our Zakat, Fitr, and Sadaqah to them. Our beloved Prophet (Saw) has set out the principles of brotherhood, so let’s learn from him. In a hadith our beloved Prophet (saw) states: "A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim, so he should not oppress him, nor should he hand him over to an oppressor. Whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfil his needs; whoever brought his (Muslim) brother out of a discomfort, Allah will bring him out of the discomforts of the Day of Resurrection, and whoever screened a Muslim, Allah will screen him on the Day of Resurrection. ". In another narration, he (saw) states: “Do not envy one another, and do not inflate prices for one another, and do not hate one another, and do not turn away from one another, and do not undercut one another in trade, but [rather] be slaves of Allah and brothers [amongst yourselves]. It is not helal to be mad at a Muslim for more than 3 days”. This clearly shows us to stay away from behaviours that are harmful to our brotherhood and emphasizes that we should not continue our lives in a state of grudge amongst our brothers. Honourable Believers! On the basis of Islamic brotherhood, when a brother is joyful then we should show joy with him, and if a brother is upset then we should show sadness with him and seek to help him. Our beloved Prophet (saw) informs us to fulfil the rights of our brothers and respect it, such as “to spread and receive Selam, to visit the sick, to accept the invitation extended by the inviter, to follow the funeral of the deceased, and to make dua for them in every opportunity”. I will like to conclude with the translation of the verse which I recited in the beginning of this Khutbah in order to strengthen our brotherhood ties: “The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy.” 2 Translation: Berkay ULUS/Redfern Mosque
