Be aware and prepared at all times as drivers often pull out and overtake, sometimes on blind bends, without indicating. Always thoroughly check the rental contract and insurance policy details before agreeing to hire a vehicle. 6 Local Transport The dolmuş (minibus) is the cheapest form of public transportation to travel around with routes to local villages and small towns. Fares are paid during the journey to the driver and will differ depending upon the company providing the service. For timetable information please contact the Signature office. Intercity bus services offer services to destinations throughout Turkey, the office of which can be found at Bodrum Bus Terminal (Otogar) in Bodrum and Milas Bus Terminal in Milas where a ticket (bilet) must be purchased in advance. Taxi Turkish taxis are yellow and are fitted with meters and can be found waiting by the side of the road and parked at taxi ranks. Fares will vary dependent upon the time of day but note that the daily rate (gündüz) is cheaper than the night rate (gece). Check to see if the driver has started the meter and that the correct rate is applied before your journey begins. Güllük Taxi Rank is located near the middle of the harbour. Here you will find a small pebble beach and a compact harbour. Restaurants are limited but authentic. Türbükü A pretty, traditional fishing village set on a peninsula hillside. With crystal clear waters, excellent seafood restaurants and trendy bars, Türbükü is a fashionable hotspot for Turkish celebrities. Ortakent Ortakent is a large village situated in the centre of Bodrum Peninsula and is famous for its attractive 17th Century ‘tower houses’ and architecture. These tower houses were built by locals to protect themselves from the dangers coming from the sea. The market, selling fresh fruit and vegetables is open every Wednesday. Kargı Beach is certainly one of the best beaches in the Bodrum Peninsula with its white sand and palm trees, camel rides are available. 13 Gümbet Gümbet offers one of the longest and most popular beach on the peninsula. This is considered the place to go for entertainment and water sports. Yalikavak Yalikavak is one of the oldest fishing villages in Bodrum, with many of its inhabitants still seafarers. It is also famous for its citrus trees, fish and new marina. Visit the village bazaar for souvenirs, textiles and rugs.
