COMPANY PROFILE COMPANY PROFILE Since it’s foundation, EMTA CABLE has been one of the largest conductor exporter of Turkey and its reels are very well known in Middle East, Turkish Republics, North Africa, Balkans in Europe as well as the company is currently leader company in Turkish market. The factory is located at İzmit/Turkey, in the northwest of Turkey, with motorway, railway and seaway connections, enabling us in order to serve our respectful customers fast and efficient service in every aspect. Focusing on the development of its technology, capacity, human resource and product range, EMTA CABLE employs 85 personnel and exports to more than 12 countries in 3 continents. Today EMTA CABLE stands on an area of 14,000m² of which 8,000 m² is closed workshops. The factory has an annual aluminum conductor processing capacity of 24,000 tons. With the following the changes in demand of the markets, EMTA CABLE have laid the foundation of second factory in industrial zone in Kadirli/Turkey, which has also motorway, railway and seaway connections and advantage of being close to Middle East markets. Existing 24.000 tones/year capacity shall be doubled by completion of the new factory lately end of 2009. The factory is manufacturing All Aluminum Conductor (AAC), Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced, Aluminum Alloy Conductor (AAAC) and Twisted Over Head Line Conductor with international standards. All aluminum products of EMTA CABLE are manufactured by continuous casting process of A7E aluminum ingots. Output of continuous aluminum casting is rolled aluminum rod having a diameter of 9.50 mm. Annual aluminum casting capacity of the current plant is 30,000 metric tons and it will be soon 60,000 tons by the implementation of new investment. Hard drawn aluminum wires ranging from 1,50 mm to 5,40 mm is manufactured according to ASTM and EN 60889 with an annual output of 20,000 tons. All aluminum conductors, with a number of at most 91 wires, are manufactured in accordance with most common standards like ASTM, EN, DIN and BS. Compacted aluminum conductors for insulated cables are provided for the leading cable manufacturers in Turkey. Aluminum conductors steel reinforced with different constructions for different requirements are designed and manufactured in accordance with major standards like ASTM, EN, DIN and BS. Aerial Bundled Cables, ABC, PE and XLPE insulated (Twisted cables PE and XLPE insulated) are manufactured according to NF C 33-209. All semi-finished and finished products are subjected to routine tests in the laboratory approved by Institute of Turkish Standards. COMPANY REGISTRATION EMTA INTRODUCTION 4. PRODUCTION IN BRIEF, STANDARDS & CAPACITY Continuous Casting In the factory there exists a Laxy melting furnace with an approximate output rate of 5 MT/hour. This furnace feeds another Laxy furnace, which provides the stability of flow of liquid aluminium, having a capacity of 10 MT. Cooling the liquid aluminium on the casting wheel, aluminium bar is forced into nine stands Secim rolling machine. Aluminium rod having a diameter of 9.5 mm is coiled on pallets. In this stage, some parameters are constantly kept under control. Quality controllers check the diameter, resistivity, strength and shape of rod and feedback to the casting operation operators. Aluminium stock is manufactured according to ASTM B233 standards with a minimum equivalent copper conductivity as % IACS of 61.4%. Annual output rate of continuous casting operation in the factory is about 30,000 MT. Hard-Drawing In the second stage aluminium rod is cold-drawn to decrease the diameter. As a result of cold drawing, the strength of the wire is increased, and it has a better surface finish. After this process, quality controllers check dimensions, tensile strength and conductivity of wires, and feedback to the cold-drawing operation operators. The minimum requirements for the wires are specified according to ASTM B230 standards as long as there does not exist any other specification required by the customer. Although tensile requirements differ for every section, the average of the equivalent copper conductivity is always above 61.2% as IACS with a perfect surface finish. For drawing process, there are three machines, two of them are Niehoff drawing machines and the other one is Henrich. Wires are coiled on iron reels having flange diameter of 630 mm and all other dimensions according to DIN 46395. Although it grows as the section of the wire increases, annual capacity of cold-drawing operation is approximately 20,000 MT. Stranding Depending on the construction of the conductor, reels of aluminium wire is loaded on the stranding machines. There are three types of stranding machines in the factory. Bow-type and tubular-type stranding machines are used to manufacture 6+1, all aluminium conductors (AAC), aluminium conductors steel reinforced (ACSR) or compact round concentric-lay-stranded aluminium conductors. Four of them are Bema bow-type and three of them are Cortinovis tubulartype machines. In addition, there are two other cage-type Cortinovis stranding machines to be able to manufacture conductors having up to 91 aluminium wires. Conductor is coiled on non-returnable wooden drums having different dimensions for each type of conductor. Main standards for AAC, ACSR and compact round concentric-lay-stranded aluminium conductors production are ASTM B 231, ASTM B 232 and ASTM B 400. After stranding process, conductor is tested as a whole to check the conformity, and also individual wires are tested to confirm the appropriateness. Depending on whether the conductor is steel reinforced or not, the annual output rate of this process is about 25,000 MT. Packaging All drums are weighed, labelled and laid on storage area. According to the material, required specifications are determined and transmitted to the supplier. Supplied raw material is investigated to control the conformity of the product according to the technical specifications before accepted in the factory. Conductors Q.C ACSR Routine Tests (Emta Conductor Test Laboratory) AAC Sample Tests Sample tests shall be carried out on the complete conductor to provide compliance with the standards. Sample of individual wires from each length of finished conductor are tested in accordance with major standards like ASTM, IEC, EN, DIN and BS regarding customers’ required standard. USAGE AREA & ADVANTAGES OF ABC SYSTEMS The usage of Aerial Bundled Cables in low voltage networks provides important saving in installation costs, while it ensures the same reliability and safety, replaces bare conductors in overhead distribution lines and increased very rapidly all around the world. Compared to the copper conductors aerial bundled cables are lighter and more economical. They can be used safely in wood, concrete and iron poles. The poles height’s can be shorter instead of using 5 different sized lines, by ABC systems we can use only one line which save on time, effort and material. Lower inductive reactance of the aerial bundled cables reduces voltage drop and power losses.
