Due to social and economic situations, the development in the city has reached very high levels. In 1950's, population of Istanbul was about 1 million. In nearly 50 years time, population has risen to 12 millions. As a result of this development some of the green areas have lost. Some countries such as Canada, USA and Germany have a big knowledge database and strong policies about green roofs. In the last decade, green roof concept was realized by the public and professionals in Turkey and green roof systems have been started to spread. But there are some deficient points about this concept. Especially academical researches and policies aren't available. With this research project, performance evaluation of the extensive green roofs in Istanbul will tried to be analyzed. We want to thank to all contributors and sponsors of this project.
