Sezgin Karali, Adam Mohammed-Mokhtar and Cem Elevli all achieved an ‘A+’ for this task. While Emray Dilbaz and Emrah Dilbaz also achieved an ‘A’ for the task as well. Well done to all of these students as it was not an easy task and this is a great performance. Secondary School Parent Teacher Interviews Secondary Parent Teacher Interviews are on Thursday 17th September in the last week of this term. School concludes at 1pm on this day for secondary school students only; the interviews begin at 2pm and finish at 7pm. Forms have been distributed to students to pass onto parents about this very important evening. In order for students to achieve their potential it requires a team approach and effective communication between the students, parents and teachers. Parent-Teacher Interviews can greatly assist with this process! If you are unable to attend the Parent-Teacher interviews then please inform the office so that all relevant teachers are informed and aware of this. If necessary they can get in contact with parents or possibly reschedule another appointment to discuss any important areas or concerns. Secondary students will need to organise times to meet with their teachers on behalf of their parents. 2016 Secondary School Scholarship Applications 2016 Secondary School Scholarship applications open on Friday the 11th of September. The process will be similar to that followed in previous years. Students who are performing to an above satisfactory level academically and who meet the general expectations of the college on a consistent basis are encouraged to view the application form and scholarship requirements to see if they would like to apply. Scholarships are open to students from Year 7-12 in 2016. If you are planning on applying then please make sure that you are very organised because it does take time and effort to go through the scholarship process. Information about the scholarship process will be available for collection from Mr. Campbell from Friday the 11th of September. Best of luck to all individuals who make the effort to apply! Toilet Facilities All students are reminded of the need to treat the school bathroom facilities appropriately. If there is any damage or mess made in the toilets then it impacts upon other students as well as school staff. It demonstrates a lack of respect for others and is obviously very unhygienic. In the secondary school toilets in particular this is not acceptable, as these students are more educated about hygiene and should simply know better. When students leave the bathroom in an unhygienic and messy state there is generally some investigation to find out who is responsible. If a person is found to have left the toilets in an inappropriate manner when they should know better, then they will be disciplined. An important reminder in regards to bathroom facilities; Unless given permission by a staff member secondary students are not permitted in the primary toilet facilities, just as primary students (with the exception of the Grade Sixes) are not permitted in the secondary toilet facilities. TERM 3 VCE HOLIDAY CLASS TIME TABLE Monday September 21st - Friday October 2nd 2015 These classes are always important and very beneficial for all students. Classes will count towards attendance as per scheduled normal classes. Students who are unable to attend should discuss their valid reason for not attending with the appropriate teacher prior to the class. School uniform is obviously not required and students are permitted to bring their mobile phones. Please bring all of the required materials. Teachers are running these classes to ensure that students have every opportunity to achieve their potential. They are essential for all of our students as they finish up their coursework and commence examination preparation. Hira College is conducting an Information Evening for current Year 9 students and their parents. It will be held in the Library on Tuesday the 8th of September, 2015 from 5.30 to 7.00 pm. The purpose of this event is to outline the structure of the Year 10 program offered at Mt. Hira College and to explain the course selection process for 2016. This includes an overview of the VCE courses that will be available for those students that meet the entrance requirements as well as advice on planning for Years 11 and 12. The Work Experience Coordinator will provide information about the Year 10 Work Experience Program and the process that students need to follow in order to complete this successfully. It is essential that parents and students attend the Information Evening in order to ensure that students make informed decisions regarding their Year 10 program and VCE course selection. Students who attend the event will be enrolled into the courses of their choice, provided that they meet the entrance requirements. Students who do not make an effort to attend the event will be allocated into courses at the discretion of the Senior School Coordinator and Principal. Thank you to those students who already returned the forms for this important evening. These forms were due to Mr. Stock by Thursday the 3rd of September, 2015. We look forward to meeting you on the evening of Tuesday the 8th of September. Mr Andrew Stock Middle School Coordinator PRIMARY NEWS On Monday 31st August it was Character Dress-Up Day. The students were to come dressed up as their favourite book character and bring a gold coin donation for the day. The students began in their classrooms taking photos and then we proceeded to the Gym for an assembly and parade. There were so many amazing costumes and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents for creating and dressing their child in great costumes and to the students who embraced this day and came dressed up. I would also like to thank Ms Laura Andreadis for organising the event. In the afternoon the students were engaged in some multi-aging literacy activities which the students really enjoyed. There are many photos which are displayed at the moment on the television which is located in the primary corridor which I encourage parents to have a look at. Dress-Up Day Recounts Yesterday was dress-up day. I dressed up as Tinkerbell. In the afternoon my teacher put us in groups. I was in number 2 group. The first activity I did was with Miss Bretag. We listened to two stories. They were called “There was an old Lady who Swallowed a Meerkat” and “We’re going on a Croc Hunt”. Then we sang a “Sailor went to Sea, sea, sea” and “If you’re Happy and you Know it”. After that we made goo. We put glue in the bowl. Then we put glitter in. Then we mixed it. After that we put hot water in. Then we had goo. After that we made book marks. We had cardboard. On the cardboard I wrote my name. I then drew a butterfly and a heart. I also drew a rainbow and a lolly pop. Then we went back to our classrooms. I had lots of fun. Zahra Hanif Grade 1 Today there are some select students who are going to Ross Reserve to compete in the annual district athletics competition. I would like to wish these students the best of luck and encourage them to do their best. I would like to thank Ms Alana Stone, Ms Natasha Padayachee, Ms Saadet Duman and Ms Zerrin Balkaya who are going to assist and support the students today. Last Friday the Grade 2s went to Ceres and Wednesday 2nd the Grade 1s went to Ceres to learn more about their topic of sustainability and the 4Rs. During their excursion they were involved in three activities which included; paper making, recycle sort and relay and worms and composting. The students had a really enjoyable day. Friday 4th September the Grade 5 & 6s are going to visit the State Library and the Immigration Museum where they will continue to develop an understanding about immigration and its effects on Australia. Woolworths Can I keep encouraging parents who shop at Woolworths to continue to bring the earn and learn stickers to school. This is greatly appreciated by the school. I would also like to thank Grandparents, extended family members and friends of our school community who are also contributing stickers and giving them to different families to bring to school. I will inform you when this program is finishing and please keep up the support. Coryn Bretag Primary Coordinator Yesterday we had to do three activities. We got to dress up and I dressed up as Elsa. You could dress up as anything from a book. The first activity was making a bookmark. My bookmark looked like a giraffe in a bush. We then did music with Miss Bretag and she read a story, “There was an old lady who swallowed a meerkat”. Then we went to the prep room to make frozen goo sparkle. We read a story about it first. Then we went day. I had a really great time. Selin Keskin Grade 1 On Wednesday the 26th August a team of Year 7 & 8 boys went and played in the Bachar Houli Cup held at Richmond’s home ground, Punt Road Oval.
