Bahar geldi. Yaptığımız iş gereği renk neredeyse her yanımıza bulaşmış durumda. Ne renk Life can pass like pop-art for some, whereas for others it might be a black and white drama. It is clear that life is not fair to all. However, it is up to us to color up our daily lives which is generally tough and drab. Spring is here. Don’t act timidly, look up to the sky and trace the clouds to see where they will take you. I do not mean that you should let yourself go altogether. Just be aware of the colors. Do not overlook those who smile at you. Follow whatever it is that adds color to your life. I cannot imagine an April without welcoming the redbuds. Close by places are awaiting us. Thanks to our job, it is as if we are immersed in color. Dozens of catalogues, magazines, photographs and graphical design works come to life with it. We all know that every color carries with it an emotion. But there are some that I have to mention when we speak of color: the green of Bursa, the red of dergi bursa and Photo Graphica, my favorite color blue and white which always makes me sad when it gets dirty. Life is generally gray even though it carries some contrasts with it; like the black and white of ying yang. It has every tone in it just like the grayscale in photography terminology. If we take white as birth/start then black will be death/ end. That is why; I think every living being is gray. We prepared an issue that will bring color to your faces so that we can thank you for all the time you spare for us. Amidst these pages, you can find and read any color you want, since as we all know this (colors) is a topic that is closed to discussion much like tastes. Rainbow can be your inspiration. I would doubt that attending a Holi festival would be bad for you, you can at least color up a bit. Do not forget to hit the road, you may stop by Naples which is the topic of “so far so close” section in this issue. We already have a 5 editör notu editor’s note bulmak istiyorsanız okuyup bulun, malum tıpkı zevkleriniz gibi tartışmaya kapalı bir konu (renkler) bu. So many legends are told about it; some about the chests of gold hidden under it, some about the immortality that one will attain if he/ she is able to pass over to its other side… One day these seven colors have started quarreling. Each one was claiming to be the most beautiful one and the argument was escalating instead of dying out. Meanwhile, rain was watching them from a distance and has intervened when it was sure that things would not be resolved on their own. It has rained down on them thus creating a myriad of colors in the sky. The colors have realized how well they suit each other and feeling ashamed have promised to come together after the rain to form a belt of color in the sky that gives hope, peace and strength to mankind.” For some, rainbow is just another natural phenomenon… Sunlight refract amidst the rain drops thus creating a colorful belt in the sky. And the seven colors that appear are just a trick of our eyes. Indeed, the rays of light that are formed on the surfaces of rain drops have only one color, white. When sunlight falls on a rain drop, part of the light cannot pass through the drop completely and reflects from the inner surface to emerge out of the place it entered. Rays of sun refract by reflecting from rain drops or clouds of mist and these reflected rays are observed in the sky as an arch. Just like all else, rainbows also have a reasonable explanation but it is still pleasant to believe in urban legends and tall tales whispered from ear to ear. Rainbows are important in every culture and belief. For instance, it dates back to Hera in Greek mythology. Legend has it that Hera appoints Iris to communicate with the earth and see those living there. Iris wears her seven colored dress and forms a colorful belt in the sky to inform mankind that she has arrived. According to some beliefs, rainbows are bridges between the earth and paradise. A symbol of hope, luck, immortality and joy. Indeed, each of the seven colors stand for different things in some cultures. For example, yellow in some cultures represents happiness and joy of life, whereas in some cultures it stands for death. Seeing rainbows means good luck and good news for locals of Southern America. Rainbow has many other names such as solongo, yeygör, süleyke, alakuşak, alkım, eleğimsema, ebekuşağı… Their common ground is that they all carry meanings such as “nice, good looking”. The interest of people in those that they cannot reach and the countless theories put forth for the unknown have been valid for millions of years for the rainbow as well. Of course, in real life it is not possible to walk to it or to pass under it. It appears very rarely and is seen for a very short time. Maybe that is why, even in Gökkuşağı / Rainbow Furkan Taşçı, Cumhuriyet Caddesi (Street), Nisan (April) 2014 mutluluğun sembolü. Hem bir hayalden ibaret olsa bile ihtimalleri riske atmaya ne gerek var? dreams rainbows are interpreted as approaching miracles, health, peace, wealth and beautiful things that can change one’s life. Rainbows are the most colorful excuses for being able to hope and to keep those hopes alive. Everyone knows that it is a rare but awe inspiring natural phenomenon, but everyone also wants to believe in legends. Who knows, maybe one day we can reach it and either be immortal or face a miracle that will change our lives completely. Scientific facts aside, what harm would it do to believe in legends without depending on them? What is the use of risking away chances even if they are only dreams? 17 tek karede bursa one shot in bursa Emek motifli çarşı dokusu Texture of a labor patterned market Ne felaketler gördü Bursa... “Apollo Butterfly” is an almost extinct beauty of Uludağ that the whole world is after, but the number of people who come across it dwindles with each passing day. Apollo is waiting to be embraced and protected as the “largest” butterfly in Turkey that roams the unrivaled fields of Uludağ in July and August… 28 Apollo Kelebeği Apollo Butterfly 29 bursa dokusu bursa motifs 30 Kelebeğin ömrü pek çok kez dilimize dolanır. (Hayvanlar Ans., C.B.P.C Publishing, Böcekler, s.13) We often talk about the life span of a butterfly. We say, “It was as short as the life of a butterfly”. In fact, this all depends on what we mean when we talk about a life span. If you perceive of life as being born, living and dying then it is possible to say that butterflies live for months… The butterfly phase that we know as flying in fields and gardens, perching itself on leaves with its thin, elegant and colorful wings is actually the last stage of their lives. Yes, butterflies do live a short life. Just like the many beautiful things that we can never get enough of… They age beautifully and reach perfection. However, it is very difficult to state exactly for how long the beautiful stage in the life of a butterfly lasts… Some are known to live for a few days, whereas some are known to live for a few weeks. There are even those in nature which live for a year; though that is very rare indeed. Even though they live as caterpillars for months, their life as a butterfly is very short. That is why some butterflies even do not have a mouth or a tube for feeding. They spend this short period in their life by looking for their partner, mating and laying eggs; in short by striving for the continuation of their species. They are so sensitive in our eyes that we think they will die right away if we touch them. However, they are capable of overcoming all problems they face on this earth. They can roam around like clouds in the desert, swim in the water and live in dark caves. They can even fly around on the highest mountains in the world, in tropical forests, on oil deposits, volcanic vents and even in the arctic. Even though there are about 170 thousand different species, each and every one of them is a miracle of nature. You cannot get enough of watching them. There are so many butterflies in the world that there are one million butterflies for each person in the world. In other words, there is about 850 kilograms of butterfly for a person with an average weight of about 70 kilograms. When we talk about the miracle of nature that is right beside 32 us and the countless unique species of animals that live on it, we come across a very rare and valuable type of butterfly. Uludağ is an unequaled paradise for the locals of Bursa in terms of plant and animal diversity. Those who appreciate this go there in every opportunity they can find. Some benefit from the blessings of winter tourism, whereas others go on mountain treks thus enjoying the clean air and nature. Like other butterflies, the Apollo butterfly also leads a short life, but if it is not taken under protection, the life of it as a species will also be short. This beauty of Uludağ will die away slowly… The Apollo butterfly is known as Parnassius Apollo in scientific terms and it is a butterfly species from the Papilionidae family. We know that it lives in mountains with heights of 1000 to 2000 m. Their number is dwindling especially because of insect collectors and the effects of global warming. This butterfly species that lives in Uludağ in Turkey is found mostly in Poland and it is about to be extinct in Czechoslovakia. It is rapidly decreasing in number in Sweden and Finland as well. Very few of us is lucky enough to see them now. These large winged angels of Uludağ go out in the sunshine less and less every day… The Apollo butterfly completes its development in 360 days. It can start flying on about the 5th day. They can even reach 12 cm in size. They lay about 100 eggs at equal intervals on plants called sedum before they die. The reason for laying their eggs in equal intervals is to ensure that all the hatchlings can feed off the plants in their vicinity in an equal manner… Apollo butterflies have been on this earth for 150 million years but now they face extinction in Turkey just like they did in Europe. The Apollo butterflies live in mountainous regions and they can even live at altitudes of about 6.000 m. Their bodies are covered with black feathers that resemble a fur and the dark color of their body enables them to absorb heat from sunlight. Küresel iklim değişimine ve asit yağmurlarına da maruz kalan bu kelebeklerin bir an önce korunma altına alınması ise şart. are much greater in comparison with those of other butterflies. In addition, these wings help them to fly high. Their wings are very thin and can even be considered to be transparent. This helps the butterflies to absorb sunlight easily. ( Hayvanlar Ans., C.B.P.C Publishing, Böcekler, s.13) The Apollo butterflies attract attention with their red spots on white wings at Uludağ especially at regions between the Aras valley and the Snow Hole leaving everyone who come across them in awe. However, many dangers such as global warming, loss of living space and collection put a distance between us. The Apollo time that lasts 1 month during July and August is like a ritual that should not be missed. It is also known that the “Apollo butterfly” stands out among the other butterflies with its unique glide. However, it must have attracted the attention of many collection enthusiasts with its beauty, since they are always after it. The heavy impact of human effects on the habitats of these butterflies is also among the reasons for its dwindling numbers. In fact, the extinction of Apollo butterfly is equivalent to the loss of these areas and the other living beings in this area. These butterflies that have been subject to global climate change as well as acid rains have to be taken under protection as soon as possible. 33 tek karede bursa one shot in bursa Engin Çakır, Minareliçavuş Köyü (Village), Nisan (April) 2014 Yeşilin her tonu Every shade of green Yeşil Bursa’nın adına yakışır bir manzarası var bu yalnız ağacın. Serenay Lökçetin projenin detaylarını şöyle aktarıyor: Photography is one of the most effective tools of communication. Rules for the perception of any message are valid for the perception of photography as well. The bond between light and life is as direct as that between colors and perception… Photography and our perceptions are made up of light. We can see and perceive colors thanks to light. Photography is the means of writing or imprinting images by the use of light and it carries our perceptions to a whole new level. The black-and-white process that started with the primitive Camera Obscura follows a colorful path that has come down all the way to our cell phones. Serenay Lökçetin set off with the theme of, “Every woman has a color” and photographed the women members of Tophane Rotaract Club for the “Women of Colors” exhibition. The photographs were exhibited on March 8, International Working Women’s Day. Colors and women determined the theme of the project because of the bonds between color and photography… Serenay Lökçetin talks about the details of the project: “Women and colors were the building blocks of this project. Klinik tipi beyazlatmada; dişetlerinin izolasyonu sağlandıktan sonra diş yüzeylerine uygulanan yüksek konsantrasyonlu beyazlatıcı Smiling is a facial expression that looks good on everyone. White teeth and pink-healthy gums are the keys to a sparkling smile… The color of teeth is different for everyone much like the eye or hair color. The ratio of the elements in the teeth, the thickness of the enamel and the intensity of the dentin layer determine the color of the teeth. Internal colorations might occur due to the tetracycline group antibiotics used during the mineralization stage of the teeth or due to being subject to excessive fluoride. Internal coloration can also be observed following root canal operation as well as in teeth that have lost their vitality. External colorations can occur as a result of frequent exposure to coloring substances such as coffee, tea and cigarette. The reason for coloration should be determined by your dentist Dt. Betül Arık Özel Minimal Ağız ve Diş Sağlığı Polikliniği prior to selecting the whitening option that suits you best. A clean tooth surface is required so that whitening can be effective. Scaling should be carried out and tooth plaque should be removed prior to carrying out the whitening operation. Afterwards, whitening can be carried out in two methods known as “clinical” and “household” or as a combination of these two. In clinical whitening; the whitening agent with high concentration is activated via a laser or a light source after it is applied on the teeth surfaces. Fast and effective whitening is attained after an application of about 45 minutes on average. On the other hand, household cleaning is carried out using whitening plaques specific to you which are prepared by your dentist. A certain amount of ajan lazer veya ışık kaynağıyla aktive edilir. Yüzünüzden kocaman bir gülümsemenin hiç eksik olmaması dileğiyle… whitening gel is placed inside these plaques that are then used for 4-6 hours a day for a period of 1-3 weeks. We generally prefer clinical application in order to sustain the whiteness attained since household whitening does not provide the sufficient effect required in most cases. The whitening agent is placed inside the tooth after the required isolation is provided for coloring cases that occur after root canal treatment. The application is repeated every two days until the desired color is reached. Coloring foods and drinks should not be consumed after teeth whitening operation in order to ensure that the whiteness is sustained. On the contrary to the general opinion of the public, whitening operation carried out under the control of dentists do not damage the enamel in any way. If this was the case, we would not be applying this procedure on our loved ones. Another component of a beautiful smile is pink and healthy gums. The reason for gum coloring in brown-purple color scale that is observed in brunettes more frequently is the melanin pigment that is accumulated in the tissue. Even though there are various depigmentation methods, laser treatment is most widely used for this purpose. The gums reach their natural color in one session generally without even applying anesthetics. We hope that a big and healthy smile is never wiped away from your face… 53 estetik estetic Op. Dr. Bülent Cihantimur Estetik International Saç hakkında bilinmeyenler ve organik saç ekimi Things we do not know about hair and organic hair transplantation Geçen sayı yeni geliştirdiğimiz ve 2 senelik bir ARGE çalışması sonrasında hayata geçirdiğimiz organik saç ekiminden bahsetmiştim. Aynı şekilde sebumdan da mahrum kalan saç kökleri ölmeye ve kişiyi günden güne kel In the previous issue, I wrote about organic hair transplantation we developed after an R&D period of 2 years. We as surgeons tend to ignore understanding what hair really is and how it grows since we continuously carry out studies on hair, its structure and roots. However, I observe that the patients who apply to our clinics are actually curious about the hair bearing tissue as well when they ask us what “organic hair transplantation” is. In this issue, I will give information on hair as the most significant aspect of the physical appearance of both men and women. First of all, I would like to emphasize that hair plays an important role in gender and identity formation as well as our emotional coding and that it has a really complex structure in contrast to the general opinion. If hair transplantation centers cannot become part of this world and use various methods without knowing them by heart, they will have to accept failure. Our work on organic hair transplantation was also the start of a journey to the interesting world of hair roots. Almost all of our hair roots are formed in our mother’s womb during the 22nd week of the fetus. At this stage of our life, about 5 million hair roots are formed. One million of these are located only on our scalp. The hair roots along with the follicles and the papillae right under them feed our hair. This is the region where our patients with hair loss experience problems. In short, the real reason for hair loss and balding is the insufficiency at this region. Sebum produced by the hair sheath is critical for the vital properties of the hair. Similarly, hair roots devoid of sebum start dying and thus causing one to lose hair. Now, you cannot achieve successful results even if you perform hair transplantation using state of the art technological devices and an effective skill. The primary goal should be the balding area experiencing nutrient issues. This information is important for us in organic transplantation. We first try to solve the problem of the region and then plan hair transplantation accordingly. At this stage, we get help from the fabulous property of Organic hair transplantation Organik Saç Ekimi ÖNCE yapmaya başlar. SONRA stem cells which are the most important building blocks of hair transplantation. The adipose tissue of the patient is the best area from where we can get stem cells. We get the fat of our patient and make it rich in terms of stem cells after passing it through a certain process. We then apply stem cell injection on the inefficient balding area and carry out the hair transplantation procedures. You can think of this as planting seeds to a field. The better your field is, the higher the crop quality, efficiency and health will be. This is exactly the case in organic hair transplantation; the transferred roots start feeding instantaneously while holding on firmly and thus the new hair that grows is much healthier and voluminous. Mavi sözcüğünün kökeni Arapça ma-i den geliyor. Ma-i su rengi demektir. All right, we are all aware that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We will not discuss this; however we will mention what colors stand for in the universe of symbols. You must remember the famous epigram by the poet Özdemir Asaf; the one that starts with, “All colors were getting dirtier at the same rate…” Asaf is a poet but I also think that he is a philosopher; one who transfers his “thoughts” in poetic language… Colors are sometimes symbols. Just like clocks, they tell us where we are in time. They become an indication of time for us just like the change of days and seasons. Sunlight is made up of seven fundamental colors even though human eyes perceive over seven hundred colors for it. Just like seven notes and the seven days of the week. White takes its place right across black on the color palette. It sometimes stands for lack of color and sometimes for the sum of all colors. It is sometimes the symbol of a beginning, of opening up a blank page, of starting anew. It represents purity, cleanness and spotlessness. In this sense, it is used in idioms related with ethics and chastity as a color that reflects even the slightest of spots. It is the color peace represented by white pigeons. It is the color of submission, represented with handkerchiefs. It is also the color of rebirth and of immortality in our culture as it is used in burial robes. Yellow is the warmest of all colors. It is the color of the sun. Whereas the golden yellow brings to mind luxury and grandeur, the yellow leaves in the autumn remind one of sadness and melancholy. It is thought that orange stands between the sun in the sky and the fire under the ground as the path from yellow to red. That is why it is the symbolic color of reaching finding the love of God via revelations as well as of attaining spiritual balance. Buddhist monks wear saffron colored costumes since it represents commitment and truth. Red is the symbol of the two most important sources. Fire and blood; one of them represents passion and love whereas the other signifies death. In Islamic mysticism, the path to the love of God passes through finding death before dying on this earth. Maybe that is why the symbols of love and death are the same. Red in Arabic takes its name from the color that a female bug named “al-kırmiz” takes when it is dried and crushed. IY is said that it increases blood tension and respiration. Matadors use red shawls since it increases rage. Blue is the deepest of all colors. The eye sinks down deep when it falls upon this color and gets lost in its infinitude. It is the least objective of all colors. There is always a seriousness and nobility in the depth of blue. We know by looking at the clothes of Jesus and Mary in iconic paintings that navy blue and blue symbolize divine love. The word blue (mavi in Turkish) comes from the Arabic word “ma-I”. Ma-I means the color of water. Blue is the color of sky, red the color of burning fire underground whereas green is the color of the earth which is the best spot for people to live in. It is located in the center of the color palette and is one of the colors that is closely related with humans due to its warm nature. Green stands for the flag and the prophet in Islamic symbolism. Just like the greenness of an oasis in the desert. Black is the starting point and the seed of all colors. Black is the coldest of all colors and is located at the far side of the color palette. We see that the color black is used for night, darkness, femininity, left, west and hell in the mythologies of all primitive societies. Black was also the first color used by people in caves. So, which color do you think will win if all of them are getting dirtier at the same rate? 57 58 59 detaylı bakış in details Orada neler oluyor? What is happening out there? Knowledge of space for most of us is limited with the movies and TV shows that we watch, but we still know and feel that something is happening outside our planet far far away. There is more than the “unidentified” objects, lights and events we watch on primetime news. Much more than what has been identified, shown or explained until today… 60 Çok çok uzun zaman önce, çok çok uzak bir galakside yaşananlar gözlerimizin önüne serilmese, “Star Wars” efsanesi hayatımızı sarıp sarmalamasaydı belki çoğumuzun aklına bile gelmeyecekti uzayda neler olduğu. Bir teoriye göre her şey yaklaşık 14 milyon yıl önce Maybe most of us would not even think about what is happening out in space if it were not for the “Star Wars” legend that embraced us by showing us what happened a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. Scientists who devote their lives to this, research centers, mystical attempts to communicate with the universe and those in it would have never surfaced. Or actually we were curious about it all along and that was why the tales we listened to and the fantastic worlds created on the white screen attracted our attention this much. Photographs from space that were started to be published by NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) years ago were one of the most important sources for this interest. So much so that “Space Tourism” that was initiated in 2008 is a product of this interest and the never ending curiosity of mankind. Children of the past who dreamt of being an “astronaut” when they grow up got transformed into space tourists of today. According to a hypothesis, it all started about 14 million years ago with a big bang. First put forth by the Russian cosmologist and mathematician Alexander Freidmann, the “Big Bang” hypothesis was never proven and thus it could not become a theory. There had to be a starting point for the infinite emptiness we live in and share with other living 61 detaylı bakış in details yaşanan büyük bir patlamayla başladı. Samanyolu hikayeleri, kara delik efsaneleri dinledik. Kocaman gözlü, ince uzun parmaklı yaratıkların gelip “Merhaba dünyalı, biz things. However, it was never clarified how it all started and how the universe was created. Thousands of hypotheses were put forth, books were written; movies and tv series were shot. We welcomed imaginary and pretty aliens such as Alf or E.T. into our homes. We drew our light sabers with Star Wars and passed through star gates. We embarked on the USS Enterprise and travelled around in space with Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock. We resisted against the “Visitors” with green blood and fought against many creatures from space like the Alien. We tried to crack open the door of infinity with our imagination we mixed in with our hypotheses. We tried to discover the third and fourth dimensions of space which comprise the spacetime continuum. We wrote “Interstellar” stories based on the “Wormhole” theory developed by Einstein and Nathan Rosen that symbolizes the passage between black holes and white holes. We sent famous names out to space and left them devoid of “Gravity”. We tried to reach out to “parallel universes” that can encompass our universe as if we have been able to discover its 93 billion light year wide space. We devoted ourselves to proving the existence of multiverses that are large enough to cover all laws of time, matter, space, energy and physics. Until now, we only knew what they told us and saw what they showed us. We listened to tales of Milky Way and legends of black holes. We waited in vain for bulbous eyed, thin fingered creatures to come down and say, “Hello earthling, I am your friend.” We pinned our hopes on meteorites that caught our eyes as they drifted out in space; we thought of them as the death of a star. The universe we never saw became one of our beliefs with its secrets. We sent messages, made wishes. Most of us embraced the motto of “seize the day” while taking their inspiration from that meteor that was rumored to “fall down from the sky and destroy everything one day”. Maybe we tried the patience of the universe too many times until now. Maybe that is why it did not reveal its secrets to us completely. But we still do not believe that we are alone here. The “UFO”s (Unidentified flying Object) that have been witnessed in increasing numbers especially since the 50s indicate that there is somebody out there. They are either restless to be sharing the same space with us or they are happy and sometimes come down to see how we live here without showing themselves to us. dostuz.” demesini bekledik içten içe. Boşlukta savrulurken gözümüze takılan göktaşlarına umutlar bağladık, onu zamanı dolmuş bir yıldızın ölüme gidişi sandık. İnançlarımıza kattık o hiç görmediğimiz, neler sakladığını bilmediğimiz evreni. Mesajlar gönderdik, dilekler diledik. Çoğumuz “anı yaşa” mottosunu sahiplenirken, ilhamını “Bir gün gelip dünyaya düşecek ve her şeyi yok edecek” diye anlatılan o göktaşından aldı. Güneş, So, what is happening out there in that infinite emptiness? And how much do we know or we ever will? Or what is taking place at District 51 established in America for space research which is still a well-kept secret? How much of the knowledge that Russia and America have discovered in their race for space reach us? It is of course not surprising that an infinite emptiness should bring with it infinite questions. That is why our heads are turned towards the sky for centuries. The in-depth theories and studies all have one goal in common: to uncover reality. Sun, planets, stars, moon… They have been waiting to be discovered for millions of years. Sometimes results that are against them can also be discovered in studies carried out by scientists. Just like the case of Pluton which was considered as a planet until 2006, but was classified as a “dwarf planet” in that year. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune. Who knows what secrets the other planets carry with them just like their order of proximity to the sun that we were forced to memorize in geography classes. It was our satellite, the Moon and Mars that attracted our attention the most. We took a “small step for us but a big step for humanity” on the Moon, which is the fifth largest natural satellite in the Solar System. We named it as our sister planet due to its closeness. We are still trying to learn if there is life on the “red planet” Mars. In addition to hypotheses that are waiting to become theories and events that cannot be explained, there are of course some things that we have discovered the secrets of. Just like the Solar Eclipse which takes place when the Moon gets in between the Earth and the Sun in its course around the Earth. There is also a Lunar Eclipse in addition to the Solar Eclipse which we observe with pieces of x-ray films in our hands. However, as we all know, this does not correspond to the disappearance of the Moon completely. Even though we think this is the case when we cannot see the Moon, in reality what takes place is a reflection of light 63 detaylı bakış in details gezegenler, yıldızlar, ay… Birkaç gün önceden haber alıp, elimize geçen röntgen filmi parçalarıyla izleyerek with the decrease of the color blue in the refracted rays and the reflection of the color red as the Moon is hidden in the shadow of the Earth. The moon takes on a copper tone during these periods and thus what takes place is a rare event that does not occur sometimes or happens twicethree times during a year. Scientists strive to discover truths and to share the most accurate knowledge with others and have uncovered many secrets until today. But maybe it is better that what we do not know for sure and let them remain as they are in our minds and imaginations. For instance, we turn our heads towards the night sky and admire the beauty of the shining stars. Or maybe it was during such a night that we held the hands of our loved one for the first time. Now if someone comes up and tells us that the romantic moment we experience is actually a plasma sphere made up in space as hydrogen and helium combine, wouldn’t our dreams be ruined? We take great joy in the fact that the immense emptiness known as space leaves us in an unending awe. We even know that there are some people who are waiting for the day that they will be selected by civilizations that live in that vast emptiness because they are so fed up of their troubles in this world. Some people believe that a “black hole” defined to be strong enough by Einstein’s “theory of general relativity” will pull all the evil in the universe and swallow them up. It is an interesting piece of information that the Milky Way takes up a very tiny place in space even though it includes the sun, the solar system, the planets, stars, keyfini çıkardığımız Güneş Tutulması dışında bir de Ay Tutulması yaşanıyor. Bilimsel gerçeklere ulaşmak, insanlara en doğru bilgiyi aktarmak için canla başla gas and dust clouds but for some people, the emotions and romance reminded by a very old song are more attractive. Most people do not even know that Milky Way actually dates back to the Greek mythology. Legend has it that Heracles whose father is Zeus and whose mother is a mortal has one day slept in the bosom of Hera. When Hera woke up she started breastfeeding the baby, but has thrown the baby aside when she realized that it is a stranger thus the milk in her breasts has spewed forth to the skies. Thus creating the Milky Way that encompasses the planets and the stars. Those who wish to discover the infinitude of space, follow the activities of NASA which started in 1958 and dates back 65 detaylı bakış in details çalışan bilim insanları, bugüne dek bizi tatmin edecek birçok bilgiyi ortaya çıkardılar. Şimdi biri bize gelip o romantik anın aslında hidrojen ve helyumun birleşerek, uzayda oluşturduğu plazma küresi olduğunu söylese, hayallerimize to NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics) in 1915 when first steps were taken as research work on planes. The million dolor studies of NASA, its space stations and the manned or unmanned flight programs to space as well as the photographs from space that have been published since the 90s shed light to the secrets of this vast space. We can even watch the rotation of the earth live 24 hours a day thanks to a system that is now set up. Thanks to the million dollar space flights initiated in 2008 by the Russian Space Agency, the aged cliché has now become, “others to the moon, we to space”. The unknown attracts attention gölge düşmez mi? People talk more about things that cannot or will not be explained. Space, universe, infinity, emptiness… Until now, it was whatever you named it. But now, thanks to work that is being carried out by scientists at the cost of their own lives, we have become successful and thus started to uncover the mysteries one by one. The secrets of space and its infinite colors are being revealed. Who knows what new theories and truths will come out. Just take a look at these colors sprawling out in front of your very own eyes as they come down from space. Are they anything like what you were imagining in the past? 67 detaylı bakış in details kötülükleri. Uzayın sonsuzluğunu keşfetmek isteyen herkes, ilk adımları 1915 yılında uçaklar üzerine çalışmalar yapan NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics - Havacılık Alanında Ulusal Danışma Komitesi) ile atılıp, 1958 yılında etkinliklerine başlayan NASA’yı yakından takip ediyor. Eskiden hayalinizde canlandırdıklarınıza benziyor mu? 69 efsane kareler legendary shots Beyaz tenli siyahi kral Colored king with a white skin Hayatımıza girdiği 80’li yıllardan itibaren her yaptığı “moda” oldu. From the moment he entered our lives in the 80s, everything he did became a “fashion”. Michael Jackson was an “iconic” legend with his much imitated hairstyle, dance moves, songs 70 as well as clothing and stage performances. There were even those among his fans who were not around when he had become popular. This made him the “legend of all times”. We met him first with a black skin, but when he passed away his skin was white. Was the reason for this change in skin color the disease known as “vitiligo”? Or was he trying to whiten his skin with special drugs as was rumored because he was ashamed of being “black”? These questions are still being discussed after his death that got the whole world mourning. 71 efsane kareler legendary shots Hüznün ortasındaki masumiyet rengi The color of innocence amidst sadness 90’lı yıllarda boğazımıza takılan bir yumru olmuştu Schindler’in Listesi filmi. 2. Küçük kız büyüdü, yaşananların ardından yıllar geçti ama film ve anlattığı vahşet hiçbir zaman unutulmadı. The movie Schindler’s List was a lump in our throats during the 90s. It depicted the Jewish genocide in the 2nd World War from the viewpoint of Oscar Schindler who had devoted himself to saving the Jews and quickly made history as a cult movie with its fascinating scenes that one could not easily overcome; this small girl with the red coat was the only color in the otherwise black and white movie and she was imprinted in our memories never to be forgotten. The movie selected as one of the “best movies of all-time” was inspired by a real story and it won awards in many categories thus becoming the center of attention. The small girl grew up, years passed over all those events but the movie and the atrocities depicted in the movie were never forgotten. 72 73 yakın plan close up Neil Harbisson Renklerin ritmine kulak veren adam The man who listens to the rhythm of the colors Renkler ona şarkılarını söylüyor, o duyuyor ve bunu insanlarla paylaşıyor. Colors sing to him; he hears and shares what he hears with others. Neil Harbisson has been living with a digital camera in his mind that he calls the “antenna” since 2003; known as half-robot half-man, he is actually only a color blind who “does not give up on colors”… 74 Doğuştan, çevresindeki her şeyi siyah, beyaz ve gri tonlarında görmesine neden olan “achromatopsia (renk körü)” hastası Neil Harbisson, 2003 yılında bir sibernetik uzmanı ile tanışarak onun yardımıyla kendine yeni bir dünya yarattı. Neil Harbisson has been affected with the hereditary “achromatopsia (color blindness)” disease causing him to see everything in tones of black, white and grey and in 2003 he created a whole new world for himself with the help of a cybernetics expert he met. He performed a miracle by carrying with him the technology that transforms colors into sounds. A camera placed on his head which sits in front of his forehead thanks to a rod and the sound chip that it is attached to transforms all the colors the camera sees into sounds thus sending them to the brain. Harbisson sees not only normal colors but also infrared colors as well and gives concerts with this technology. He can also access the internet using the chip in his head and he has solved many of the problems he has experienced because of the chip by having it registered to his passport. This technology comprises a large portion of his life and has transformed him into a “cyborg” whose greatest fear is that of being “hacked” since he does not use any firewall. His “antenna” detects the color of the light thus sending it back to him. The chip transforms what it receives from the light into tones and sends them to the bones as sound waves. Thus, what we hear with our ears Harbisson listens with his bones. World famous paintings become musicians for him, while it is as if everything in his daily life sings to him. Harbisson has gotten used to this technology in 5 months and he has been using it ever since for years. He can now hear the faces, furniture and paintings that he has seen before many times and he lives as if to prove that everything in our lives has a song to it. For him, this is not the announcement of a new technology or just another new product. This is only an organ that enables us to use our emotions in the most unbelievable way possible… Harbisson was not content with just talking about this at the TED conferences, so he composed a song based on colors at Barcelona Palau de la Musica, sharing it with others through orchestra or chorus while also developing an application that will enable people to make use of this technology without any chip in their brains. Thanks to this application, it is possible to listen to the sound of colors using our smart phone and speakers. Yüksek sesli gökkuşağı A rainbow with a loud voice Müzik listelerinde zirveye olan tutkusunu rekorlarla taçlandırmış bir isim Katy Perry. Yaşamının her evresinde dikkat çekici detaylar saklı. Onu şarkı Even though she sees fame as the most boring part of what she does and says that there is no underlying desire to attract attention in anything she does, she ended up making headlines every time. She had started singing songs as part of the church choir but now shatters records with songs that enter world charts as soon as they are released. The fact that she is the only singer who has entered the top 10 in the Billboard Hot 100 list and stayed there for 52 weeks straight is proof of the talent she discovered as a kid… She always succeeds in making an expression with the different and interesting outfits she wears in her clips, special events or large organizations and concerts. Katy Perry, or Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, is always in the limelight with her songs as well as live performances, love life, relations and her perspective of life… Katy Pery was born in 1984 as the daughter of a priest in California and had a childhood in financial difficulties together with her parents who were Christian and were devoted to their religions. Perry grew up with her smaller brother and older sister, attended “Santa Barbara Christian School” and went to camps. She went to church regularly during a period in her life because her father was a priest. She discovered her interest in music at an early age and so started singing in the church choir. The only problem was that she was allowed to listen to sing only religious music. All other types of music were forbidden by her parents. Another encouragement for her to keep on singing was her sister Angela. After a while she thought that she needed to be educated about what she enjoys doing and went to vocal training for 7 years. Starting from the age of 13 when she had her first guitar, she started composing songs that were enjoyed by all who listened to them. She received training in fields other than music as well; she enjoyed hobbies like rollerblading, surfing, skateboarding while also paving the way for her adolescent years during which she would be known as “tomboy”. During her adolescent years she did not Katy Perry Katy Perry is a name that has crowned her desire for top spots in music charts with records. Interesting details are hidden in every stage of her life. Each of her memories is a color in themselves from her musical career that started in the church choir to buying a “space ticket” for the man she loves… One is reminded of bright makeups, colorful hair, wild costumes and the several Guiness records of hers upon hearing the name of Katy Perry. However, her real secret is that she is never afraid of fame. söylemeye teşvik eden bir sebep de ablası Angela oldu. Yeteneğine şansı eklenmiş, hayat onun karşısına, find herself to be very beautiful and prayed that her physical appearance would be more striking, indeed worrying too much about this issue because she thought she had to look good if she was going to be famous one day. Because just like her statements in one of her interviews years later, she thought as a child that famous people were special beings living in another universe and they had to look perfect all the time. Her story of discovery dates back to these years. Luck was added to her talent and one by one she started meeting people who were going to help her to use her talent in the right way. She enrolled in the Academy of the West at Santa Barbara when she was 15 years old. She attracted the attention of Steve Thomas and Jennifer Knapp with her performance there and they directed her to Nashville for a more comprehensive training. It was now time for Katy to record demos and write more songs. Katy developed her skills for writing lyrics here and released her “Katy Hudson” album under a contract with Red Hill Records. However, this album that was released under her real name was to perform well under expectations and would be remembered as an unsuccessful attempt in Katy’s past. 15 yaşındayken Santa Barbara’daki Academy of the West’e girdi. Ancak kendi adıyla çıkan bu albüm beklenenin altında bir karşılık verecek ve Katy’in geçmişinde, onun başarısızlıkla sonuçlanan The conclusion that she drew from the failure of her first album was not disappointment but was the key to the road to success. This enabled her to find the right path for herself. She released herself from the effects of the “gospel” style of music in which she grew up and realized that she had to move towards a more universal type of music. She settled in Los Angeles thinking all the time of making non- religious music. She believed that her name had to change as well thus she left behind her real name of Katy Hudson which she thought would be mixed up with that of Kate Hudson and started using the maiden name of her mother. Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson would now be known as “Katy Perry”. During this period when she was the vocalist of The Matrix group, she went through a time of misfortunes related with music production companies. bir denemesi olarak kalacaktı. Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson Contracts were broken one after the other and she failed to release her new album. The misfortunes she experienced neither encouraged nor discouraged her. She continued to do what she liked and would continue to do so no matter what. A famous music magazine in America known as Blender published an article about her as the “next big thing” in their September 2004 issue. This proved to be the light that Perry was after. A year later there were songs in the original score of the movie entitled, “The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants”. She had the chance to work as a back vocal for Mick Jagger in the same year and she was seen in a few clips. She still had not been able to release her album but slowly she started to be known in the sector as a familiar figure. Of course this as well as the people who accepted her talent would open new doors for her and the 79 armoni harmony bundan böyle “Katy Perry” adıyla anılacaktı. Perry’i takdir eden isimlerden biri olan Angelica Cob Baehler onu Virgin Records’a tavsiye ederek ona önemli bir kapı açtı. Tüm yapılanların arasında en önemlisi ise Katy name Katy Perry would be known by more people as it deserved. And that is what happened. Angelica Cob Baehler was one of the people who admired Perry and she opened an important door for her by suggesting her to Virgin Records. The work that started in November 2007 through various activities and organizations was carried out to introduce Perry in the most accurate way possible and to ensure that this talent would be discovered in the world of music. The most important development amidst all this was that Madonna declared her as her “spiritual daughter” and went on to praise her talent, songs and voice. The album entitled “One of the Boys” was released after a period of patient awaiting which turned out to be a success and Katy appeared in several television series. In April 2008, her first single “I Kissed a Girl” was released which turned all musical lists as well as popular culture upside down during the same month. The song that was number one in the Billboard Hot 100 List became a turning point for Katy Perry. The song was nominated twice in MTV Music Awards and Perry ended up winning the “Best Upcoming Artist” award. During the same year she started her first world tour known as “Hello Katy Perry”. She was now a “famous” figure who had succeeded in selling over two million digital copies and thus entered the Guinness Book of World Records in 2010. Tours, large organizations and concerts started to take place one after the other during this period. She went on stage as opener to various artists and appeared in video clips upon invitation. The colorful clothes and accessories she wore as well as her makeup she labelled as “fun” were all reflections of the different colors in her soul. This was her response to those who thought she was trying to attract attention. It would be unfair to Perry’i “manevi kızı” olarak kabul ettiğini açıklamaktan çekinmeyen Madonna’nın onun yeteneğini, şarkılarını ve sesini övmesiydi. Sabırlı bir bekleyişin ardından çıkan “One of the Boys” albümü büyük beğeni toplarken Katy birkaç dizide de göründü. I Kissed a Girl” satışa sunuldu. Bir konserinde pamuk şekere başka bir konserinde dev bir kardan kadına those who watched her if she did not reflect the varying colors of her soul. In one concert she became a giant cotton candy whereas in another she became a large snowwoman. The paparazzi were after Perry as she continued on with her musical success thus starting to question the private life, loves and family of this interesting woman. Perry starred in the movie “Get Him to the Greek” one year after her relationship that lasted until December 2008. The scenes she had starred in were not released but she met Russell Brand during the shoots and took the first step on the road to marriage by declaring in the same year that they were lovers. Katy Perry was not as successful in her private life as she was in her careers and her marriage in 2011 with her fiancée Brand to whom she gave a ticket to space as a gift would last only one year. This year it is known that she is with the musician John Mayer who she had broken up with in 2014. Katy was not always lucky in love but she enjoyed an unstoppable climb to the top in her career. Her third studio album “Teenage Dream” entered the music charts from number one. The single she released after that received the platinum certificate nine times. Following this success, Perry reached the success of Michael Jackson’s “Bad” album and became the second artist in the world to have 5 number one hit singles from the same album. After selected as the “Hottest Woman of the Year” in 2010, she was declared the “Woman of the Year” in 2012. In addition to supporting many charities, she participated in the works by UNICEF and gave help for the education and feeding of the children in Madagascar. She entered the “Highest Earning Women in Music” list by Forbes in 2011, 2012 and 2013. She became one of the “Best Selling Artists of All Time” in the world with about 11 million album sales 81 armoni harmony dönüşüyordu. Ardında bıraktığı yarım kalan aşkı, hayallerini, anılarını ise “Katy Perry: Part of Me” isimli filmde anlattı. Babası hastalığa yenik düşmüş, uzun süredir verdiği yaşama savaşını behind the “6 Super Heroes” movie which received the “Best Animation Award” at the 87th Oscar Ceremony this year. “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” Walter Elias Disney was born in 1901 to an Irish immigrant family in Chicago and started working at a very early age to be able to provide for his family that was in a tight spot financially. Walter supported his family by selling newspapers, he had not received a good education due to financial difficulties but he knew how to read and write and he kept reading books whenever he had the chance. One day he saw an ad on the back cover of a book he was reading. The ad was for a free course. Disney decided to attend the course given by the Kansas City Institute of Art and received an education on drawing. There, he met Ub Iwerks who was to be his partner in the days to come. After Walter kaybetmişti. Bu kısa süren başarısız denemenin completed the course and got back to Chicago he was given bad news which would affect him for a very long time. His father had lost the struggle against his disease and had passed away. Walter was so sad that he could not do anything for a while, but he knew that he had to get back to work to be able to look after his mother and continue living. Thus, he did so and started making drawings at a small agency for low fees. It was then that he received a telegram from Iwerks whom he had befriended during the course. Iwerks was calling him to Kansas to establish a business partnership. Walter accepted his friend’s calling with high hopes and went there however the techniques that they discovered to make short movies and the office they opened brought more loss than gain. None of the movies they made were successful and nothing went as they dreamed. Following this short and unsuccessful attempt, 87 hayat hikayesi life story ardından Walter, Şikago’ya annesinin yanına geri döndü. Walter eski dostunu Walter went back to live with his mother in Chicago. However, he had started worrying not only for his mother but also for his future as well. He loved drawing cartoons for which he was trained and he wanted to make a living at it but he was not able to sell his cartoons to newspapers or magazines. No one liked his drawings. He was told that he had “no talent and that he had to give up on it” and he only received such advices wherever he went. He even thought of selling his drawings on the streets, but for this he needed a place where he could draw. A pastor of a church provided him with this opportunity. For a small fee he had found a place where he could live and draw. It was a mice infested place and Walter was afraid of mice. “It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.” One day he realized while drawing, one of the mice climbed up his drawing table and started acting as if it was dancing. He realized that his childhood that had passed with watching animals and dreaming that he could talk to them had not abandoned him despite the hardships he lived through, thus decided to feed this mouse and somehow be friends with it. He then drew about their friendship. He had started drawing the mouse in different shapes. For those around him, Walter never gave up on chasing the “impossible” and in 1923 he decided to go to Hollywood and try out his luck there, to put his life at stake in a gamble while never forgetting his small friend during the difficult days. He founded an animation studio together with his brother in the same year. He started working on “animations” as he had always intended. He prepared a cartoon for the “Alice” character using animated pictures. Oswald the Rabbit followed this work that received some praise. Walter had not forgotten his old friend and had invited Iwerks to this company as well. Walter’s life was now back on track and in 1925 he fell in love and got married to Lillian Bounds who always supported his dreaminess. Life was now becoming more livable for Walter. The risk they had taken for the talking animation picture “Steamboat Willie” that broke box office records upon its release was not for nothing. Following this success that got beyond the limits of Hollywood, Walter decided that it was time to pay homage to an old friend. In 1928, he decided to introduce his friend during those miserable years with the whole world. Mickey Mouse was now on stage as the “world’s most famous mouse” since the first day of its release which was to be dubbed unutmamış ve Iwerks’i de bu şirkete dâhil etmişti. Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Varyemez Amca… Sürekli kalabalıklaşan bir arkadaş gurubu hatta Mini Fare adında bir eşi bile vardı. Bu eğlenceli ekibin maceraları tüm dünyayı ilgilendirmeye başlamıştı. Goofy’nin beceriksizlikleri, Varyemez Amca’nın cimrilikleri, Donald Duck’un öfkesi ve bu öfkeyi dengeleyen kız arkadaşı Daisy Duck’un sevimliliği herkesi bir anda kendine bağlamıştı. Bu renkli dünyanın büyüsü kısa zaman içinde herkesi içine çekiyordu. Disney kardeşlerin kurdukları bu şirket zaman içinde milyon by Walter himself until 1946. Walter Disney succeeded in creating a renowned hero and an adored cartoon character from the difficult times he endured in that dark and damp room. “I love Mickey Mouse more than any woman I have ever known.” Maybe Walter had not been able to live a proper childhood but he was able to transform his own imaginary world into reality and share it with everyone. He was also able to create heroes adored by children which remind adults the children living inside them… That poor kid had grown up and Walter Disney had become the “Uncle Disney” of all the children in the world as the father of the small mouse he had first named as Mortimer but then changed it to “Mickey” upon the suggestion of his wife. Of course Mickey Mouse did not stay alone for too long. Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Scrooge Mcduck… He had a continuously increasing crowd of friends and even a wife named Minnie Mouse. The adventures of this merry crowd started to attract the attention of the entire world. Goofy’s clumsiness, Scrooge McDuck’s stinginss, Donald Duck’s anger and the cuteness of his girlfriend Daisy Duck who balanced out this anger had 89 hayat hikayesi life story dolarlık projeler yapmaya başladı. The magic of this colorful world drew everyone in. This company founded by Disney brothers started creating million dollar projects over time. Animation movies were shot to well-known fairy tales which received great acclaim every time. The first was Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. This movie which made Disney win the first of the around 30 Oscars they won was also accepted as a revolution in the history of cinema. Indeed, the award he received for this movie was specially designed for him. There were 7 other small Oscar statuettes in addition to the Oscar statue. The foundations of the animation movies that are enjoyed by children and adults alike date back to those days. Animation movies of well-known tales such as Bambi, Pinocchio, Robin Hood, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Treasure Island, The Three Cabaleros followed. The movie entitled “Victory Through Air Power” shot during the Second World War to underline the importance of the air force received great admiration and with this movie they succeeded in attracting the attention of the US Government as well. The animation movies continued after the war which were enjoyed by the crowds and were nominated for the Oscar awards in many categories. “Walt Disney Company” kept on growing and larger productions followed one another. Walter Disney announced in 1940 to his fellow workers that he called “dream engineers” that he wanted to set up a park where he could spend time with his children. “I want Disneyland to be the most unbelievable place in the world and I want a train that goes all around the park,” after which the first Disneyland was opened in 1955. This humongous park visited by children from all around the world was followed by its counterparts in Paris and Tokyo. Everything about the world of Disney received huge acclaim all over the world and thus brought about commercial success with them. Animation movies, documentaries, television movies, children parks, toys and even hotels and television channels… The name of Disney was everywhere and when in 1960 Walter Disney succumbed to throat cancer, he had succeeded in adapting all his childhood dreams into reality and sharing it with the entire world. So much so that, even death could not prevent his name from echoing in the future and being remembered with love by posterity. Walter Elias Disney, the father of “Mickey Mouse” and the founder of the real “Wonderland” whose body was frozen upon his will after his death left behind not only colorful memories, but also a life story that can set an example to humanity as well as these words that can shed light upon the darkest days as the rising sun: “If you can dream it, you can do it. Don’t forget that it all started with a mouse.” 91 evrensel sanat universal art Savruk fırça darbeleri Wild brush strokes “Dışavurum ulaşılması gereken en önemli şeydir, duyguları renkle anlatmak istiyorum.” diyen Henri Matisse’ye göre renklerin tuval üzerinde daha özgürce, oldukları gibi, tüplerinden çıktıkları en doğal halleriyle dans edebilme hakları olmalıydı. “Expression is the most important goal that should be reached, I want to express my feelings with colors,” said Henri Matisse who believed that colors had the right to dance freely on the canvas in their most natural forms. 1869 Fransa doğumlu Henri Matisse, Paris’te bir yıl hukuk Matisse completed his education on law but started painting just because he enjoyed it and he probably could never envisage pioneering a new movement in art due to a period of time when he was bedridden with a disease. Henri Matisse transformed his passion for color first into a hobby and then into an art movement; he defended the idea of reflecting the colors in a raw and pure manner just as they are thus becoming one of the most modern artists as the founder of fauvism. He studied law but succumbed to his passion for colors and went on to be their advocate. Born in France in 1869, Henri Matisse received an education on law in Paris for a year after which he started working as an assistant to a lawyer at Saint Quentin. He also wanted to develop himself in painting and thus took drawing lessons. He lived like this for a while until the change that came in 1890 93 evrensel sanat universal art eğitimi aldıktan sonra Saint Quentin’de bir avukatın yanında asistanlık yapmaya başlamıştı. Modern resim adına büyük katkılar sağlayan bu akım adını resimleri görüp onlara “vahşi hayvan” anlamına gelen when he was bedridden due to an appendix operation. It was during this time frame that he devoted himself to his paintings to overcome his boredom as well as to develop himself. He felt ready for a whole new life when finally he gained back his health and stood up. He decided to end his career in law and go to Paris to work only on paintings. In 1891, he found the chance to carry out this plan and became the student of William Bourgereau at Academie Julian. He won the exam he took in 1895 and attended the workshop of Gustave Moureau. Matisse was a striking student in each class he attended thanks to the way he used colors, his unique style and creativity. He started a new life with the help of these trainings and the people he met thus entering a period in which he discovered himself and art. In 1897, he went on a trip with his neighbor and colleague Emile Wery to visit the artist John Peter Russell. This trip led him to “post-impressionism”. He saw works by artists who were not well known at the time such as Paul Gauguin, Van Gogh, Paul Cezanne and was quite influenced by their authentic styles as well as the way they used colors. His interest in pure and prismatic colors transformed his art life completely during this period of discovery. Matisse was interested not only in paintings but also in masks and statues of African art, the decorative arts of Western Asia as well as Japanese calligraphy thus finding the inspiration he was after from artists who gave credit to colors. Matisse believed that the colors he was passionate for had to be used in a lively and striking manner as in the examples he admired since he discovered his interest in painting. In 1901 he started sending his paintings to exhibitions and 3 years later held his personal exhibition. The exhibition he held with Derain and Vlaminck in Paris was also the start of the “Fauvism” movement. It was named after “fauve” meaning “wild animal” referring to the comments made by critics after they saw these paintings. The works influenced by this movement use raw colors directly on the canvas in a disordered perspective; applying the method of distortion instead of abstraction which was widely used until that time. The 1905 painting known as “Woman with a Hat” was the most famous work by Matisse and it is discussed even today. The painting ripped off reality from itself with wild brush strokes while consciously disrupting form. He also used colors to specify lines in his painting entitled “The Green Stripe” which he completed in the same year. The influence of African masks could be seen in this painting. Colors were used in their rawest form in the painting entitled “Luxury, Calm and Pleasure” as well. His objective was to caress the souls of others with colors. The painting known as “Open Window” put forth influences of Islamic Art forms and stood “fauve” diyen eleştirmenden alıyordu. Bu resimde ayrıca, Matisse’nin ilham kaynakları ve etkilendiği out with pure, simplified colors and brush strokes. Despite the destructive criticisms, Matisse was aware that a new movement in art was being born and that his works were significant examples of modern art and he knew that identifying something as ugly actually meant that it was not seen properly. Matisse was interested in statues, china and carpets with Eastern motifs in addition to painting and his favorite model was Amelie Parayre with whom he married in 1898. Amelie knew that she shared her husband with art and she had accepted this fact on the day that she said “yes” to her husband when he wanted to go to London to see Turner’s paintings on their honeymoon. Amelie preferred to be a part of 95 evrensel sanat universal art çalışmalar arasında bulunan Afrika maskelerinin de etkisi görülüyordu. 2. Dünya Savaşı’nın olumsuz etkilerine ve hastalıklarına boyun eğmeden üretmeye devam etti. “Ikarus” bu dönemde yaptığı en bilinen çalışmaydı. Son yıllarını geçirdiği Nice’de, 85 yaşında hayata veda edene dek eser vermeye devam etti. Pablo Picasso ile birlikte modern resmin öncüleri arasında yerini alan Matisse, Picasso’nun biçime getirdiği yeniliğe karşılık, renkleri özgürlüğe kavuşturan bir ressamdı. O da fovizmin “renkçi”lerinden biriydi. Onun çizgileri yoktu, renkleri vardı. Yalnızca renkleri… En saf, en doğal, en canlandırıcı halleriyle… Tuval üzerinde konuşan, şarkı söyleyen, dans eden, ressamının derdini anlatan renkleri… his art instead trying to tear him away from it. Amelie was the model in many of the paintings by Matisse that still remain today. As the pioneer of a new movement thanks to his passion for colors and painting, Matisse never gave up on learning and trying new things. He continued to visit new countries to meet new art movements as well as new painters while also continuing to draw. The paintings he did in the 1930’s had decorative elements. The 3-piece work known as “Dance” that he completed during this period was one of the most important examples of this. In addition, the works known as “Pink Nude” and “Music” were among the most important ones that reached our day. In the 1940’s his body gave way thus forcing him to rest. He continued to work without ever giving in to the negative effects of the 2nd World War or diseases. “Icarus” was his most famous work from this period. He continued to work in Nice until he passed away when he was 85 years old. Matisse took his place among the pioneers of modern painting with Pablo Picasso and he was the painter who gave colors their freedom despite the innovations he brought form. He was one of the “colorists” of the fauvism movement. He did not have lines, he had colors. Only colors… In their purest, most natural and reviving forms… Colors that talked, danced and sang on the canvas to convey the trials and tribulations of the painter. 97 detay details En renkli bahar bayramı The most colorful spring festival Hindistan sokakları, her yıl baharın gelişiyle birlikte birbirlerini hiç tanımayan ama aynı gülümsemeyi, aynı enerjiyi paylaşan neşeli insanlarla doluyor. “Holi” diğer adıyla “Renklerin Festivali”, dünyanın dört bir yanından gelen yabancılara kucak açıyor ve Hindistan baştan aşağı renklere bürünüyor. Umudun, iyiliğin, sevginin, kardeşliğin, eğlencenin, mutluluğun ve baharın renklerine… With each new spring, the streets of India fill with people who do not know each other but share the same smile and the same energy. “Holi”, also known as, “The Festival of Colors” embraces people from all four corners of the world thus wrapping India up all over in colors. Holi kutlamalarında her yıl Holika’nın küle dönüştüğü anın canlandırılması yapılıyor “Holi Festival” is actually a “Hindu” tradition, a religious ritual specific to India; it starts every year in March at full moon and puts forth colorful scenes for a period of two days. This world famous festival during which the coming of spring and the victory of kindness over evil is celebrated actually dates back to mythological legends. People sing songs, dance and mingle with strangers who do not even speak the same language among all the different colors. The sadness and despair of the previous year is left behind and spring is embraced with high hopes, colors and joy. The festival gets its name from Holika, the evil-hearted sister of king Hiranyakashipu. According to a legend in Indian mythology, Hiranyakashipu is granted with immortality by the Indian god Brahma after which he orders Holika to kill his son Prablah who defied him. Holika plans to throw Prablah to the fire, trusting her fireproof shawl, however things do not go as planned and it is Holika who burns in the fire whereas Prablah is saved. According to a different version of the legend, Holika sacrifices herself by covering Prablah up with her shawl. Goodness wins in any case and Prablah is rescued from the fire. Every year, the moment when Holika turns to ash is reenacted during the Holi celebrations and evil is cursed in the accompaniment of “Holi-Hai” sounds. Indeed, people who take a piece of this fire to their homes believe that it protects their homes and bodies from evil. The second day of this color filled festival dates back to another legend. The Indian God Lord Krishna becomes jealous of the skin color of his friend and shares this misery of his with his mom Yashoda. The solution that his mother suggests is to paint Krishna’s skin in the color that he wants. Krishna accepts this suggestion which becomes the start of this colorful tradition when he turns it into a game. The counters fill with all kinds of colors as the festival time approaches. These colors can be purchased as well as be prepared from plants named tesu and palash and they each carry a different meaning. For example red symbolizes innocence, whereas green stands for energy and vitality. Setting aside its legends and history, the Holi Festival is an experience that many people cannot get enough of and it is ranked high in the “things to do before one dies”. 101 foto öykü photo story Bir gece, bin renk One night, a thousand colors Yazı ve Fotoğraflar / Text and Photos: İsmail Şeker New York… The moist hotness of the day slowly leaves its place to the cool winds that blow from the Hudson River – Atlantic Ocean – East River triangle. I first go on the Brooklyn Bridge over the East River flowing between Manhattan and 103 foto öykü photo story Hızlı adımlarla, yirmi dakikada yürüyebileceğim köprüyü gidip gelmem her zaman birkaç saati bulur. The bridge is one of the symbols of the city and I always walk on and take pictures of it whenever I come to New York regardless of the season. This bridge holds hundreds of “love locks” on it that carry with them a love story binding two lovers together. It has one foot on Brooklyn and the other on Manhattan thus bringing together these two regions separated by the East River. Even though I can pass over the bridge in twenty minutes when I walk fast, I sometimes spend several hours to go and come back. When you look right while walking towards Manhattan, you see that the neighboring bridges become smaller as you move away as if they are the reflections of the Brooklyn Bridge. Whereas on your left it is as if the Statue of Liberty is waving at you. It is only one of the ten bridges of New York with one foot on Manhattan. Its closest friend, the Manhattan Bridge is so close by that you can easily see the train and the pedestrians passing over it. Brooklyn Bridge is one of the 8 wonders of the world and it is not only a block of concrete and iron. Just like every bridge, it tells the tales of rejoining and separating. You can see people walking on it every hour of the day in every weather condition. People from all over the world. Each with cameras of various sizes. Taking “selfies” and pictures. Symbols of wishes and “love locks” are tied to the bridge railings, the keys of which are thrown into the river. All that is interesting around diğer insanlarla tanışırlar. Do not say you have seen Italy without ever visiting Naples. Turn a deaf ear to all the negative rumors you have heard so far on the mafia, the mountains of garbage, purse snatchers, traffic, noise, chaos and listen to me. You will find many things in this article that will drive you to see this idiosyncratic city, mostly Mediterranean and a touch of European. We are off to the home town of Sophia Loren, the stepchild of Italy, the back alley cat, the odd sheep, maybe the dirtiest but the most vibrant European city you will ever see, the Naples of Maradona, to the land of the congenial and tender-hearted Neapolitans. How can people love such a dirty and messy city? How can you wish to get lost among its streets at first sight? How can you feel like you belong at once as you roam the streets? How can a city pull you in despite all the desolation? OK, it is a disarray and scruffy metropolis. Historical buildings are grand but uncared for, the streets are well planned but the traffic has turned into anarchy; it is coming apart at the seams, if not it is covered in raggedly hung laundry. Still, it is a city that pulls you in with its pulsating energy. You know the commercials that say the secret of the Mediterranean people for 109 uzaktaki yakın so far so close 110 Tarihi binalar görkemli ancak bakımsız, sokaklar aslında iyi planlanmış ama trafik kural tanımaz bir halde çığırından çıkmış; her yer dökülüyor, dökülmese salkım saçak çamaşırlarla bezeli. Aynı zamanda bitmeyen enerjisiyle insanı içine alan, yaşam dolu bir şehir. Hani Akdeniz insanının uzun yaşamasının sırrını zeytinyağına bağlayan reklâmlar vardır. İşte oradaki uzun masalarda yemek yiyen dedeli torunlu kalabalıktaki neşe var bu şehrin özünde. Vezüv’ün gölgesi ve tehdidi altında zamanla ölüm korkusunu yenip yaşama bağlanan bir enerji... Bilenler bilir. Türkçe işe yaramaz belki ama başınız sıkıştığında Türk olduğunuzu söylemeniz sorunu çözebilir. a long life is olive oil; this city has in its core the cheerful quality of that crowd dining on that long table, with the grandparents, the grand kids and all. An energy that has in time defeated the fear of death, living under the shadow of the volcano Vesuvius... Some of you might know; the North Italians think the southerners are roughnecks and southerners accuse the northerners of losing their Italianism. They do not like each other very much. But, Naples has the common dislike of all Italians. Neither the guy from Milan nor the one in Sicily likes it. Other Italians say “they are not Italians, they are Neapolitans”. They could not care less. They see themselves Neapolitans before Italian. Their language is different from Italian after all the years spent under the Spanish rule. If you wish to learn a bit of Italian or practice your Italian, wrong choice, make a detour. Italian will serve you as much as English would, not more. For they are both foreign languages in Naples. You can get by using Spanish. Turkish will not do you any good either but saying that you are Turkish might solve the problem. General Info & Transportation Naples is the third largest city in Italy after the capital Rome and Milan with its 1.3 million population but the most densely populated city in Italy. Like Genoa and Venice, it used to be an independent city state. The Kingdom of Naples survived from 1285 to 1816. It softly whispers that it was once the capital of a prosperous kingdom with the palaces you come across even in the small streets, the castles, bastions and beautiful gates, churches and monasteries, which have become ragged but have splendid architecture. If you look closely underneath the rough surface, you can see the glory days. It is 250 km south of Rome and can be seen in a day’s trip from Rome but it certainly deserves to be the focal point of an independent visit. It is located 111 uzaktaki yakın so far so close Genel bilgiler, ulaşım 1.3 milyonluk merkez nüfusuyla İtalya’nın başkent Roma ve Milano’dan sonra üçüncü büyüğü, aynı zamanda metrekare başına düşen kellenin yani nüfus yoğunluğunun en yüksek olduğu İtalyan şehri. Burası aynı zamanda şehrin en turistik, en heyecan verici, en cazip yeri olan eski şehir merkezinin in the Naples Gulf between two volcanic regions, namely Vesuvius and Campi Flegri. On one side of the Vesuvius is the antique city of Pompeii with the well-known fate and on the other side is Naples. We will mostly talk about the city center then again there are noteworthy places in the vicinity, such as the Mount Vesuvius, archeological antique cities Pompeii and Herculaneum and of course the Island of Capri. If you have enough vacation days to spend in the summer, on the south, after a short drive of an hour is the Amalfi coast, listed among UNESCO’s World Heritage. You can get to the Naples airport every day with a 2 hour 15 min. flight from the Atatürk Airport with Turkish Airlines. The airport is almost in the city center. You can reach the Piazza Garibaldi for 3 Euros with the Alibus shuttle busses. You are actually in the city the moment you leave the airport, also public transportation busses take you to the Piazza Garibaldi. Because the distance is short, taxi is also cost-effective. The city in general is not very expensive, food&drinks and accommodation are reasonably priced. Piazza Garibaldi Piazza Garibaldi is a very large square, which is lined by the Naples train station on one side. This is the spot to be re-visited if you are planning to travel to Sorrento and Pompeii. On the Garibaldi, you encounter things that are not random in other European cities. Like handicapped beggars, swindlers performing three card tricks, mostly black hawkers selling what appear to be stolen goods, little street vendors… It is a fun square. As long as you keep your personal belongings like your bags, wallets, phones and passport well-guarded. Across the train station, behind the Garibaldi statue there is a street market on Via Pasquale Stanislao Mancini and the street that crosses it. This place is also close old city center which is the touristiest, most exciting and appealing part of the city. Turn your back on the station and walk ahead. Let the adventure begin! “Napoli-divider” Spaccanapoli So now for Centro Antico, the 720-hectar old city center of Naples. In the region, holding a dear place in the UNESCO World Heritage List, almost every street has historical remains, a church, a monastery, a square, a mansion, a monument, a gate or a tower form the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Baroque or the Rococo Era. “Spaccanapoli”, roughly translated as “Naplesdivider”, is the nickname of Via Benedetto Croce, a long and typically narrow street which divides the city center right in the middle. It especially draws your attention when you look at it from the top of the castle. It is the only remaining street from the three streets built in the antique ages when the city was the new city, namely Neapolis. The crazy streets where the heart of Naples beat is exactly at this part of the city. It is an oasis for photographers. You will not be able to keep your hand off the shutter; do not say I did not warn you. The streets of “Centro Storico” and the old city are so beautiful that you will spend hours strolling through the piazzas and narrow streets and must-see structures including, but not limited to Duomo, Pio Monte della Misericordia, Capello Sansevero, San Lorenzo Maggiore, San Gregorio Armeno, San Domenico Maggiore, Gesu Nuovo, Santa Chiara. On the northeast of the district, there is the Archeological Museum. Evidently, there are a lot of antique cities in the surrounding areas; therefore it is one of the most important archeological museums in the world. It is not just churches, cathedrals, museums. Napoli awaits you with its narrow streets constantly overflowing with energy. Getting lost in the streets for hours, feeling yourself belong more as you remember the squares you caught your breath and the streets and the people you pass will be a priceless experience. The hurry of the young waiter carrying espressos, buzzing motorbikes, baskets dangled from the houses, street cats, water dripping from the de çok yakınında. Bu bölgenin kuzeydoğusundaki Arkeoloji Müzesi’ni de hatırlatmakta laundry decorating all the streets, loudly communicating folk of Naples will lift up your energy as well. You will stop not because you are tired but are weak to the smell of coffee. Well you are in Italy, right? If the beautiful Piazza Bellini, as its name suggests, is the place you rest, than you might want to mark you maps or you make a mental note if you plan on going out at night. Oh, do not forget to order the “Baba” desert with rum to complement your coffee. Laundry, motorbikes, bumper cars They say the flag of this city is the laundry hanging from the balconies. Every season, though covered with plastic in rainy and cold weather, the laundry is there. They must like washing clothes but I think the real deal is proving the actual and moral cleanliness of the house. As in all other Italian cities, Naples has an insanely large number of scooters and a puzzling traffic. Do not be surprised if you spot a whole family on one single scooter. You can come across drivers wearing seatbelt designed t-shirts instead of the actual thing. Also, it is quite normal to thump yourself in to or out of a parking space. As it appears, most of the cars in the city have dents. It is almost impossible to find a car with both mirrors or all hubcaps intact or bumpers without dents in Centro Antico or the Spanis quarter which is a giant playground for bumper cars. This crashing and scratching is so trivial that cars do not even slow down upon small impacts. This situation bore a strange tradition for the town’s people; when you buy a new car you key it or bump it yourself. Pizza As much as it is the birth place of pizza, it is the hometown of the margherita prepared with the colors of the Italian flag (red-white&green; tomatoes, mozzarella&basil). Pizza çok ucuz ve gerçekten çok güzel. to eat the real deal pizza, Margherita which was once served to the queen, not at a high-end pizza place but at a rather small, crummy, restaurant with wooden furnace. The most famous one is “L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele”, you will recognize it from the long queue in the front. It is located on the east side of Cento Antico, towards the Piazza Garibaldi on Via Sersale. White marble tables, the man at the counter, the pictures on the walls with family members and famous figures are reminiscent of the Sultanahmet Meatball place in Istanbul. It is the restaurant where the movie starring Julia Roberts “Eat, Pray, Love” was taken. The pizza is really cheap and delicious. The dough of the pizzas in Napes is thicker compared to its counterparts in other Italian cities, the crust is burnt, and it is juicier and has fewer ingredients than ours. Michele has two pizzas: Margherita and Marinara. Margherita; tomato sauce, mozzarella, and basil leaves; Marinara: garlic, tomato sauce, oregano and olive oil... Another well-known pizzeria is Gino Sorbillo at the city center (via dei tribunali, no: 32). It has more tourists but still the pizza is so yummy. Sophia Loren, Toto, Maradona, Pulcinella The famous people of Naples, Sophia Loren and Toto are all around in the shape of magnets and figurines. Toto (Antonio de Curtis) is well ahead of Sophia Loren in pictures, magnets, figurines, and key chains. Of course Pulcinella, the legendary theatrical character of “Commedia dell’Arte” with the black mask and white hood is also the leading symbol. It is said that the Neapolitans fear two things; the eruption of the Vesuvius and the Napoli FC being relegated. The latter being more frightening. The volcano erupting is less terrifying for them than Napoli FC losing its place in the league. Thus, this is a city where football comes above all. I guess everybody is familiar with the legendary days when Maradona was in Italy and Napoli was the champion. After all the years, they are still selling posters and uniforms of Maradona. You can see something related to Maradona on house and café walls, on cars, motorbikes, etc. For the most devoted Neapolitans, Maradona has become some sort of saint I think. It is evident that the legend will live on. What we must do is come home with a souvenir of Diego. Pepper of Naples, Limoncello, pasta, wine, etc. - the shopping list. Italians think red peppers bring good luck and prosperity. When they go to the brides house to ask for hand in marriage, bundles of red pepper accompany the chocolate. These red peppers, now a symbol of good luck, have spread all around Italy from the South. To cut it short, you have your pick at the souvenirs from the items with the red pepper theme. Also the huge lemons of Southern Italy and the famous Limoncello. You know the origin of this liqueur is mostly Sorrento. There is also the Meloncello, with melon. Naples also has a large selection of handmade pasta. You are at the right place for reasonably priced various types of pasta. But before you stock up the pasta, let me remind you that you are indeed in South Italy and the good quality and low-cost wines are at the supermarket right around the corner. Castel Sant’elmo If you have completed your tour of the old city, the next stop is the roof top of the city. Around the castle are the more upscale neighborhoods, with no laundry. You can reach Castel Sant’elmo that overlooks Naples with a funicular. The best view of the city against the backdrop of Mount Vesuvius is here. Additionally, this is the spot watch Spaccanapoli, Naplesdivider, I have mentioned before. There some offices in the castle and a small museum if you are interested. But, I must say Naples is not a city to visit museums, so let’s move on to our next stop the Spanish Quarter, hop on the funicular. Pizza lovers, take out your notebooks, here comes another hot tip. Ve funicular as you are coming down the castle, to the right, towards the Quarteri Spagnoli, on Via Pignasecca there is a pizza place, not famous as the others but one which has earned the loyalty of the locals: Pizzeria da Attilio. It is simply perfect. Especially there is this one kind with twisted sides, like a calzone, but double layered, you have to try it. If you are one of those people who live to eat, not the other way around, you need to add this to your bucket list of “100 things to do before you die”. I mean it. Spanish Quarter If you cannot get enough of the chaos of the city, with its narrow and precarious streets, the next destination is down the castle, towards the sea, right behind Via Toledo; Quartieri Spagnoli – the Spanish Quarter. It is like they have carried the Tarlabasi neighborhood of Istanbul to Naples. Small grocery stores, coffee houses, and of course the laundry. As is the case all over the city, on the street corners you can see little window displays like altars, “edicola”, with religious figurines, pictures, and lights, a votive offering for the passerby to pray for a wish. The Neapolitans chatting loudly, always smoking, scooter noises going up the hill... When you get lost, you might end up in front of a tripe soup restaurant similar to the ones in Istanbul. You will think “so in the heart of Europe, they have tripe soup”. Before you shake off the surprise, o guy in a striped suit, with sun glasses and an apparent pistol in his belt, a rose tucked behind his ear will turn around the corner. Or some drunk shouting “Oh mamma mia!”. No, this is not a movie set. I told you, it is Tarlabasi, so we are used to the shaky ground. Via Toledo The ones who think this much excitement is enough, lead to nicer districts, to the coast. This vibrant area, which gets as crowded as a street demonstration by sunset, starts from next to the Piazza Plebiscito and encompassing Via G.Sezza, Via Chiaia, Via Nardonnes, and all Via Toledo towards the old city. The shopping mall Galleria Umberto, similar to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, completed in 1890, is located here. One of the four entrances of the Galleria is across the San Carlo Opera house and the other takes you to Via Toledo. If would like a more sterile environment, please go ahead. When you arrive at the coast, you will find the most iconic structures of Naples; Castel Nuovo (the new castle) and behind it Palazzo Reale (the Royal Palace). The palace overlooks the Piazza Plebiscito and the Basilica di San Francesco di Paola on the square is quite remarkable. It has a certain air of Vatican to it. As a matter of fact, the dome of Paola was inspired by the Pantheon in Rome and the pillared entrance embracing the piazza from the San Pietro. If you think this is city has a harbor, so a bit of sea air is necessary, stroll towards the sea to Via Console. You will be accompanied by the Sorrento semi-island and the 115 uzaktaki yakın so far so close tabi Güney İtalya devasa limonları ve elbette ünü şehirle yarışan Limoncello. Napoli’ye yukarıdan 116 islands under the shadow of Mount Vesuvius. Do not miss the other important castle of Naples, dell’Ovo on a stretch of rocks on the sea and the small marina Borgo Marinari under it. There are nice restaurants and cafés here. If your heart is set on walking further, keep the Via Partepone by the sea. A refined neighborhood with many luxurious hotels by the sea. It is a breath of fresh air. For shopping enthusiasts, Corso Vittorio Emanuele has high end stores. Many fine restaurants line up on Via Roma and they are lively till late hours. Pompei The antique city of Pompeii, which you should not miss when you are already in Naples, maybe even plan a separate visit for, is 25 km from Naples. The entrance of the city is just 100 meters away if you take the Circumvesuviana train from the Garibaldi station to Sorrento and get off at the Pompei Scavi stop. On August 24th, year 79, the antique city, which is not still completely uncovered, was buried under volcanic ashes along with Herculaneum after two days of explosion of the Vesuvius Volcano. The city was lost for 1700 years after the mighty Vesuvius erupted, but was coincidentally discovered in 1748. Today it is among UNESCO’s World Heritage List and is one of the most popular tourist sites in Naples. As you know, it is infamous because supposedly it faced the wrath of God, being a sin city and all. It is actually awe-inspiring with its level of prosperity and wealth of 2000 years ago. In the 1st AD, this city with a port had a population of 20.000, along with baths, market places, temples, brothel houses, theatres, sports areas, etc. They had in villas that might be considered luxurious even today and lived a life of leisure and comfort. Then one hot august morning in the year yerel halkın ilgisine fazlasıyla mazhar olmuş bir mekân var: Pizzeria da Attilio. Sahil şeridine inildiğinde ise Napoli’nin en önemli ikonik yapıları olan Castel Nuovo (Yeni Burç) ve biraz arkasında 79, they felt the mountain shake, they were not alarmed, because it was a common occasion. But the giant volcano erupted. The ones poisoned by the sulfuric gas could not escape. The whole city was buried under lava and ashes with tens thousands of residents. The ashes preserved everything as it were. The animal and human bodies you will see were created by filling in the molds formed by the ashes. Spending time in Pompeii is an interesting experience. Sorrento Next, after Pompeii is the 20-minute away seaside town of Soreto, the beginning of the Amalfi coast. There are two reasons to visit this cute town by the sea, founded on rocky slopes. First, the closest ferry to the Island of Capri leaves from here. Second, starting with limoncello, a world built upon lemons waits for you. You can get here in an hour with a scruffy regional train from Naples. Oneway trip costs 4,1€. A couple of hours might be enough to see the town if you are quick on your feet. Contrary to Naples, Sorrento is very clean, and the squares are more organized. There are a couple of viewing decks on the hills. Here you can see the sea, the coast of Naples, and if it is a clear day the Vesuvius. You would not want to miss it. Our souvenir list in Sorrento contains lemon cookies, lemon candies, lemon colognes, chocolates with lemon liqueur, lemon soaps in the shape of lemons, and of course Limoncello. One of the streets at the entrance has first class stores that specialize on lemons and lemon flavored products. My personal favorite here is “crema di limoncello”. Ask for the freshly made ones and remember me with love as you taste it. There is nothing like it. The Island of Capri With the zest of lemon in our mouths, our next stop is Capri. Sorrento and Capri are closely located. Following a 20-25-minute ferry ride, you will get to Italy’s popular vacation spot; the Island of Capri. After your days of slumming it in Naples, I would advise you to freshen up. For you will be breathing the same air as the jet-set of Europe. The island houses all the couture brands and high-end boutiques of Italian and French designers. Hence the style contest. Everybody, young or old, glide as on a catwalk. Each person is beautiful or handsome. There is a funicular which will take you up to the Main Capri, and allow you to go to the other side of the island. There are also minibuses. White houses with flowers flowing from their windows, the Mediterranean, flying seagulls, the smell of tangerines, the distant sound of accordion playing, coffee in your hand, maybe a slice of tiramisu... The adrenalin in Naples will be replaced by endorphins. Well there are also places to see here. Villa Jovis, built for Emperor Tiberius and Villa San Michele in Main Capri are enchanting. The Blue Cave (Grotta Azzurra) is another site to be seen however you can only reach it with small boats by the help of local tour companies. Naples and Capri have corresponding ferries too. I know we made a detour but you could not miss tasting “crema di 117 uzaktaki yakın so far so close yer alan Palazzo Reale (Kraliyet Sarayı) yer alıyor. The trip back takes around 45 minutes. Where you get off is the Massa Port, near Castel Nuovo. As you drag your feet for your flight back home, on the left you will see the mouth of the of the 1200 meter deep crater wall of the Vesuvius. The plane flies really low. Keep your cameras close and do not miss this sight. After this last shot, put away the camera, wear you headphones, start losing yourself in the soft voice of Dean Martin as he sings “That’s Amore”... “In Napoli where love is king.../When the moon hits your eye./ Like a big pizza pie... That’s amore.” This, indeed, is love. Naples is really hard to forget. The feeling of belonging that has seeped into your veins will persist and you will be secretly planning your next visit as you are on your way back. An old Italian saying goes like this: “Vedi Napoli e poi muori!” meaning; do not die before seeing Naples. So what is keeping you in this perfect season to visit Southern Italy? sıradaki hedefimiz Amalfi kıyılarının başlangıcı sayılabilecek sahil kasabası Sorrento. Son karenizi aldıktan sonra makineyi kaldırın, kulaklığınızı takın ve Dean Martin’den “That’s Amore”yi dinlemeye başlayın: “In Napoli where love is king.../When the moon hits your eye./ Like a big pizza pie... That’s amore.” 119 uzaktaki yakın so far so close Napoli’den 16 instagram karesi / 16 instagram shots from Naples #dergibursa @dergibursa 120 @oscarsnapshotter
