COURSE PRECONDITIONS: No preconditions LEARNING OBJECTIVES: To teach the concepts of wind energy and wind systems. COURSE STRUCTURE: The course qualifies undergraduates for scientific and engineering work and method and relays theoretical/analytical skills which enable students to approach new situations openly and creatively. The class is given in Turkish and meets for two lectures a week. TEXTBOOK: Rüzgar enerjisi: teori ve uygulama, Murat Durak, Serra Özer, Türkiye Rüzgar Enerjisi Birliği (TÜREB), 2008 (In Turkish). Wind Energy Handbook, Tony Burton, David Sharpe, Nick Jenkins, Ervin Bossanyi, WileyBlackwell, 2001 Wind energy: fundamentals, resource analysis and economics, Sathyajith Mathew, Springer, 2006 Wind and Water Energy, Payne Sherry, Raintree Steck-Vaughn Publishers, 1999 GRADING: One midterm and one final written examination. Written closed-book examination. Grades A, B, C, and D assigned for, respectively, scores greater than or equal to 90, 80, 70, and 60% correct, and the grade F for below 60%. No intermediate grades are given. Students are provided with their cumulative 40% from one mid-term exam and 60% from one final written exam.
